I'm gonna go with a hunch, and say Price/Backstrom.

Well, as far as reasoning goes, I'm not a fan of Fleury anyways so I don't particularly consider him to be a 'stud' so I would have no problem benching him in favor of someone who I think will have a better game.
Backstrom career-wise is 19-2 against Edmonton with amazing periphs. I understand the past is the past, but he also played against them last week and stopped 21/22 and was pretty damn good.
As for Price, to me he's a stud. So I start him every time.

Anyways that is just my opinion. Haven't had too much luck with the goalie-playing opinions.

I think I'd go with Price and Fleury.

    Default Feeling okay about Price

I was feeling Price as one of the starters, but was wrestling with the same thought processes as Bondon & Soco... any tie breakers?

So I guess it's between Backs vs. EDM and Fleury which would at least get me a Win. Another thread seemed a bit torn on MIN over EDM too.

I'll take the win... so Price vs. Fleury.

MIN hasn't mustered any offensive chemistry lately - I can see EDM's youth actually giving them trouble.

    Price and Backstrom.

To reiterate what I said in another post:
Habs dominated Sabres on Tuesday, outshooting them 40-20 and Miller stole that game. Habs will be hungry and Price desperately needs his 100th win. Pens on the other hand are playing with their farm team...

If you're going price, what's the point of going fleury? Are you playing to hedge or are you playing to win?

We also track other stats (GAA, Sv% & SO) so it's more than just about the W.

Yes, but more likely than not, the winner will have good peripheral stats and the loser will have not-so-good peripheral stats... it's not like they're uncorrelated

If you start both and you're lucky, you'll end up with a low scoring 1-0, 2-1 type game... but if you're unlucky you'll end up with a 4-3 type game. At the end of the day, you are effectively hedging for the win.

    Default Fleury & Backs

Sorry guys, I guess the right call was Fleury & Backs. Thanks for the advice though.

Price/MON just seem to be fighting "IT"... he's not elite so far this season.

It'd be cool if there was a formula for each game/goalie to help with the "start who" questions. I.e.:
    - Every goalie gets a rating based on their predicted totals on standard cats
    - From game to game (or better yet 3 game trends... or so), plus or minus based on how they/the team is doing
    - Goalies could get bonus points based on defensive metrics (i.e. D doesn't let up many good scoring opps; high blocked shots, etc.) may help stablize the #s some
    - Some sort of volitility metric (based on tendencies to put up stinkers or stand on their head)
    - AND THEN Factor in info on the Team their playing against (i.e. avr. # of goals, shots, hot/cold, etc.)
    - I'm sure their is more info we could even factor in (i.e. home vs. away records, etc.)

I'm not sure how to do it just yet, but some how all of this could end up as a single # that can be used to directionally indicate who are the stronger starts on any given night. It'd be real helpful on the close calls. I don't have the abilty/desire to keep something like that updated, but it could be an interesting idea for the Hockey Geeks or Goalie Post.... just a thought.
