Looks like Babchuk is still a healthy scratch! I have been holding onto him in a 16 team, deep league. Looks like I might have to cut him soon.

i think the organization believes in sutter. he is a proven winner and his system is solid, the players just aren't buying into it. that, and he doesn't have a whole hell of a lot to work with. iginla has the worst +/- on the team and he has been awful - especially lately. and when your top scorer is playing bad away from the puck and not scoring when he has it, not much good is going to happen for the flames... i think they will continue to move some pieces around before the let sutter go.

This team is a mess right now. Even listening to the talk show in the morning on the way home from work yesterday made me believe the flames are worse than they actually are. they arent good defensivly, they have nobody that can score goals at the moment and kipper just isnt the same. even if they traded iggy what would they get for him. a prospect or 2 and a high pick with a mid level nhl player. i think they need to overhaul this entire team and start building from the draft. iggy would be the perfect mentor for young kids coming. in. trade kipper while he is worth something and start looking at loading up the pipelines

The Flames pick up Blake Comeau off waivers. With Moss hurt (again) this may help give them something, and hopefully Comeau as well. 24 goals last year... no points whatsoever this year.

But I would agree with above, a lineup that's 2nd oldest in the league, no good youth in the horizon unless things really go well on a best-case scenario, and as Elliott Friedmann's 30 Thoughts mentions - this team just doesn't have fun.... at all.... and it's starting to make the fans not enjoy the experience either. Calgary fans like going to the games but it is a corporate town, I'm slowly seeing it become easier to access tickets, which is not a good sign.

At the very worst, Comeau at least brings the average age down.

So here's a thought for you... what do the Flames need to do?

    Untradeable:
Giordano, Brodie, Bartschi, Tanguay, Horak, Glencross (give this guy the C)

    Trade bait:
Iggy (ouch), Kipper, Stempniak, Jokinen ("took me 13 years to learn how to play defense", final year of his contract), Babchuk, Jackman, Sarich

    Stuck with them:
Bouwmeester, Butler, Moss, any of the 4th line

No word yet on the severity of Giordano's injury, but from what I saw it appears the shot hit directly on the ankle bone on the inside of the foot. If that's what broke, or down below closer to the arch, either area is not good as you need the inside portion of your foot to develop your power (as compared to the outside of the foot which doesn't take such a direct weight load while skating). Any report I've seen characterizes the injury as bad at best. Will update as soon as news is reported.

Finally a good chance to watch the replay unfold, this won't be good for quite some time.

The only fortunate thing with a hamstring injury is that it doesn't affect you in your skating motion nearly as much as it would for walking or running. That being said, I am currently getting over a fairly significant hamstring pull/tear from playing flag football this year, I cut chasing the quarterback and felt my hamstring nearly explode. Based on the way Giordano went instantly clutching it, I've experienced that exact pain. I've been able to jog for a while but sprinting is a different animal, I'm only at about 70%. My timeline - 3 months.

I'm not saying Giordano will be out that long, but hamstrings are notoriously long-healers (especially if torn) because there is so much muscle fibre there that has to heal from that type of injury. And you do need strong hamstrings on D to get your base to push guys away from the front of the net or along the boards.

My educated guess for his absence, minimum 6 weeks. 100% effectiveness - 3 months. This is a huge blow......

I like Glencross going forward. It seems he's able to play with whatever center he's paired with. Some 2nd PP time to boot as well. I'd argue he's been one of the most consistent players this year, seems to be thriving in this role. While I'm not exactly sure his top end is more than 25 goals, those are the players the Flames need to keep scoring when Iggy/Tanguay go through their ups and downs.

Man Leland Irving was nuts last night. 39/41 and Calgary was getting their butts handed to them for most of the game. The only line that wasn't getting manhandled by the Panthers was the Glencross-Jokinen-Iginla line.
