The Ducks claimed center Ben Maxwell off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets, a club spokesman confirmed Thursday.
Maxwell, 23, played in four games with the Jets and did not register a point. A second-round pick of Montreal in 2006, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward had a minus-2 rating and saw no more than 8 minutes, 56 seconds of ice time in any of the games he dressed in.
Maxwell has seen limited NHL action in each of the past four seasons, playing in 12 games with Atlanta in 2011-12 and 20 games over the previous two seasons with the Canadiens. The Jets put Maxwell on waivers Wednesday in the hope that he would clear and be sent to their American Hockey League affiliate in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Expected to join the Ducks in time for Friday’s home game against Vancouver, Maxwell is signed to a two-way contract for this season and will be paid $715,000 when he’s in the NHL and $62,500 in the AHL, according to capgeek.com.
Maxwell has played in 179 games in the AHL with all but two coming with the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Canadiens’ minor-league affiliate. He has 49 goals and 94 assists over his four AHL seasons and one goal and one assists in 36 NHL games.

This time, it's the Canucks that are sloppy as Cogliano picks off Hamhuis pass behind the net and feeds Koivu for one-timer. 1-0 Ducks.

Canucks' Aaron Rome gets five for elbowing Smith-Pelly in head and a game misconduct. Looks like direct shot. Sure to be reviewed.

That leads to 2 more goals on the Major PP. Koivu and Perry score Beauty's.
Then before 2 period ends Holland scores his first.
Great period , the major mistake by the cannucks.

So far watching the 2nd intermission they showed Getzlav just taking the play away from the Sedins.
I hope they can keep this up for 1 more period.

HIller stops one point shot by Salo and then foils Kesler on the rebound attempt and Ducks hang on barely for 4-3 win. 38 saves.

Good thing time ran out, two games were played tonight.

22 shots to 2 by the Cannucks in the 3rd period.

Aside from Fowler, which defenseman(men) do you think could get additional ice time, EV and especially PP, now that Visnovsky is out?

    Kurtis Foster I would think.

Foster's been a healthy scratch all season - my money is on Beauchemin and Sbisa, however I think the Ducks are more likely to go with 4 forwards on PP1 and leave Beauchemin Sbisa on PP2.

Foster won't be a healthy scratch for a while but Carlye hasn't said yet or tipped his hand what he will do yet.
I'd say Beauchemin plays on the 1st pp but it will change with any success

ANAHEIM — Some quick notes from the Ducks’ practice on Saturday at Anaheim Ice …
    – The news of the day certainly was the loss of defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky for up to four weeks due to a broken finger on his right hand and the focus immediately turned to how the Ducks would make up the 23 1/2 minutes of ice time the veteran logs on average.
A natural option would be to insert veteran Kurtis Foster into the rotation and possibly move up Luca Sbisa into Visnovsky’s spot on the second pairing alongside Toni Lydman. Both scenarios were readily acknowledged by Ducks coach Randy Carlyle after their workout.
    – While Foster will likely eat up some power-play time on the second unit, the Ducks figure to put Ryan Getzlaf up at the point on the first unit but also have him work off the side wall whenever it is possible.

Any chance of Ryan getting first unit PP time?

Foster was out with an injury to start the season and then was eased back into the lineup.

Possibly. I've seen them use Getzlaf at the point before with Perry/Selanne/Ryan up front.

Here's to hoping getzlaf goes on the point and ryan gets in the first unit. This will force getzlaf to shoot more as well Which he needs to do.
