Terry Murray said the Kings will go with the same lineup tomorrow against Detroit that they used last night in Anaheim, including Jonathan Quick in goal. Murray also said that there is no change in the status of Dustin Penner, who remains “a ways away” from returning to action.

Dustin Penner (hand) is weeks away from returning according to Kings' coach Terry Murray.

Well that's not too encouraging. Last we heard it sounded as if Penner would be out another 10-14 days. We hope you have found a replacement for him as it does not seem as if he will be able to play again until well into Dec.

    From Kings Insider
Jonathan Bernier will get the start in goal tonight — his fourth start of the season — and the Kings will go with the same line combinations they used yesterday in practice. That means Trevor Lewis and Brad Richardson will be healthy scratches. It means a third line of Kyle Clifford, Jarret Stoll and Trent Hunter and a fourth line of Ethan Moreau, Colin Fraser and Kevin Westgarth. More notes and quotes from the skate to come

Kings Insider has an update on D pairings

The latest attempt to pair Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson on defense lasted three games, and now it’s finished. A handful of times over the past couple seasons, Terry Murray has hoped this pairing would last, in 5-on-5 situations, but it has yet to find long-term success. At the start of last night’s game, Doughty paired with Rob Scuderi while Johnson paired with Willie Mitchell, and the Kings will stay with that look tonight, along with Slava Voynov paired with Matt Greene (more on that below).

MURRAY: "It wasn’t working with Jack and Dewey. That’s the bottom line. That's why we go away from it again. I thought there was a point now, where, they've been together in the past and we could bring them back together again. It should work. They were very excited about playing together, when we talked to them. Right now, the maturity level is not where it needs to be in order to get the job done. So we'll have to wait a little longer. Maybe we'll eventually get to it again, but that's the reason we go away from it.’"

The other big change was moving Voynov from the right side to the left. It’s not a stretch to call it a tryout. If Voynov plays well on the left side, there's a very good chance that he will stay with the Kings, even after Alec Martinez returns from injury. Exactly whose spot Voynov would take remains to be seen, but in his first game on the left, Voynov earned solid reviews.

MURRAY: "To me, it worked out very well, specifically with Voynov making the change over to the left side. His reads, his acceptance of going to the left side, first of all, he showed a lot of maturity in doing it and he handled the play extremely well. He did not get himself in any tough situations because of being over there. He just moved on and played his game, and I was happy to see that. All three pairs played well. They were assertive, they were pretty aggressive, they closed fast and moved the puck out of our D zone at the right time. So we'll stay with it again.'"

Per Kings Insider, major shake up on the line combinations coming

Well, The Great Lineup Shakeup of 2011 has taken place, with Andrei Loktionov moving to center, Jarret Stoll to wing and only the fourth line remaining intact. Here's how the forwards and defensemen are lined up early in practice.

    Brown-Kopitar-Hunter
    Gagne-Richards-Stoll
    Clifford-Loktionov-Williams
    Moreau-Fraser-Westgarth
    Penner/Richardson/Lewis

    Scuderi-Doughty
    Mitchell-Voynov
    Johnson-Greene
    Drewiske-Martinez (no-contact)
I don't get it, Murray loves Trent Hunter. He keeps getting 2nd PP time, but hasn't scored a single goal. He blows an open net chance to tie last game, and he gets promoted to 1st line?

It was an optional skate this morning, followed by a lengthy session with the injured/scratched players. In fact, they’re still on the ice. The Kings will go with the same lines and pairs that they used in practice yesterday.
Terry Murray indicated that Dustin Penner is making good progress and could be ready to play Thursday. There’s no change in Alec Martinez’s status. More notes and quotes to come

Terry Murray said he’s still planning to get Dustin Penner back into the lineup on Thursday, but Murray has not yet decided where exactly Penner might fit in. Penner would have to be activated from injured reserve first, which would necessitate a roster move, either putting a player or waivers or sending one to the AHL

    Kings Insider
Mike Richards will go on injured reserve tomorrow, meaning he will be out at least seven days.

Willie Mitchell will not go on injured reserve, but Terry Murray said he fears Mitchell will miss multiple games.

No players are expected to be called up. Dustin Penner will be activated from injured reserve and Davis Drewiske will play. Brad Richardson is also expected to replace Trent Hunter. Alec Martinez has been medically cleared but isn’t yet ready to play.

Jonathan Bernier will start in goal tomorrow.

Here’s how the Kings are likely to line up

    Gagne-Kopitar-Brown
    Penner-Stoll-Williams
    Richardson-Loktionov-Westgarth
    Clifford-Fraser-Moreau

    Scuderi-Doughty
    Johnson-Voynov
    Drewiske-Greene

Willie Mitchell did some post-practice skating today. Afterward, Mitchell said he had a slight groin strain and estimated that he is now at 75 percent, which is encouraging for his short-term prospects of playing, but Mitchell will not play tomorrow. Mike Richards rode a stationary bike and “feels better,” Terry Murray said, but that’s the only update there.
As for the lines, Murray said his motivations were to reunite the Kopitar line and to move Dustin Brown back to left wing, where he had looked effective. More notes and quotes to come, and don’t forget the Jim Fox chat on LAKings.com at 1 p.m.
