Statistically, it's been proven that generally the reason teams "turn around" or "improve" with the firing of a coach mid season is because GMs are so safe and anti-action, a team has to be on an extreme run of bad luck for a coach to get fired in season. So when the new coach turns the fortune's, it really has nothing to do with the new coach and everything to do with luck regression.

I wouldn't fire Maurice based on what's going on now or in the near future. Anyone can see that struggles right now have nothing to do with Maurice. The one thing that gives me pause is what happened last year, and who's shoulders that should fall on. What in the world happened for them to collapse so monumentally last season? The Jets' dressing room was a disaster last year. I really think in large part it had to do with Trouba, Buff and Wheeler. Is Maurice responsible for not pulling that together? Is it something he should be fired for? I think there's a lot of blame to go around, including on Chevy for not moving Trouba sooner, as it was plain to everyone that Troubs didn't want to be here from very early on.

I wouldn't fire Maurice and I wouldn't trade Ehlers. It's not panic time. Chevy's working on it. If there's a worthwhile deal, he'll make it, but if not it's not the end of the world; just the season. I think the team's very high on guys like Niku, Stanley and Samberg.

I don't think Buff's coming back, and I suspect Chevy will keep options open, so that when something juicy comes up, he can jump on it with room on the team and cap space to spend.

The truth is in between, fellas. As always. Some of it is regression to the mean, some of it is a change in tactics or a change in voice. To think that a different coach can’t achieve different results is all the more naive, if not simply cynical. Otherwise there is no point to the coaching profession at all. We’ve seen many coaches adopt teams and obtain much better (long term) results than their predecessors. Perhaps for no other reason than that they are better coaches.

    Jets defence tonight:

Niku, dahlstrom, poolman, Pionk, heinola, bitetto.

    Oh dear me.

Check the practice lines if anything. I think it’s gonna be a flux until they figure out a winning lineup. I wouldn’t bet on any stability for the lineup right now.

ill hold off then, limited GP points league. im rotating schwartz ehlers bertuzzi and domi in 2 spots in primarily favourable matchups.

i stick ehlers and bertuzzi in at RW from time to time as well just in case of injury to wheeler/kessel.

That's got to be a record for least experienced starting 6 on D for a regular season game, or real close to it...

going to be a long season if that doesn't get fixed.

Acquiring Hickey right now would seem like a no-brainer.

Huge win tonight. Hellebuyck was much better and the D did ok, kept things simple and moved the puck out of the zone quickly against a depleted Pittsburgh team. Laine was very good, as was Ehlers.

Onto the next one. Hellebuyck needs to keep that chip on his shoulder.

What is Heinola's upside? He has the opportunity now.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

I see a jay bouwmeester, spurgeon type. Steady out of his zone, good passes, good skater, sound stick but not an offensive player really. Doesn’t mean no skill, but the offensive role isn’t his.

Byfuglien had ankle surgery last week. Hopefully he's able to fully recover and eventually come back, if he's willing.

Comrie takes the scenic route and finally clears waivers for the Jets.

#NHLJets G Eric Comrie has cleared waivers and can now report to the #MBMoose
