Interesting that Brossoit is starting tonight. That's a short leash for Hellebyuck, who's looked pretty terrible through pre-season and his first game.

Maurice...he's gotta win or he's gone and Brossoit is giving him his best chance to win. No choice but to play him...

With that crop on D, I'm not sure even Trotz could muster a passable defensive game from the Jets. Kulikov, Pionk, Heinola, Poolman, Bitetto and Dahlstrom? Barf.

I’m not a Maurice fan and I think he’s a bad coach. He should go. But no NHL coach could succeed with this D. This is a joke. Chevy has completely failed this team.

Trade Ehlers. He's probably the most valuable locked in at a friendly 6M AAV. And they can't/won't maximize his value with Laine and Connor around.

Does anyone really think the patient-to-a-fault Jets are going to fire their long tenured coach after 3 games where they went 1-2? I mean. Really now.

No way, unless the Jets get something amazing in return. Otherwise, Chevy's got to keep the young core together. I'm not nearly as doom and gloom as most fans are right now. The team is still in a good position, even if this year turns out to be a bit of a mess. Sometimes good teams have a down season while they retool.

What do you see as a greater need, short and long term? Ehlers or a top 4 Dman, considering what they have and what's coming down the pipe ? I don't think Ehlers alone gets them a top 2 guy but a good 3/4.

I think the great term and cap hit of Ehlers gets you a great option back on D but they shoudln't trade him. The timing is bad because for sure they expected one of Poolman or Stanley to be closer to ready as they dealt with the Trouba issue. They couldn't trade Trouba while trying to compete but they knew he was walking. Myers wanted too much but he wasn't that great. Same for Chiarot. They really needed Trouba to stick long term and sadly that was not happening. They tried planning for it as best they could, but the prospects just aren't there yet. Laine needs to become a world-beater. Hayes needed to stay but like Chiarot and Myers, in a world where a team is always ready to overpay, this is what will happen. Players look out for themselves first now.

So, we have what we have and the Jets need a defense-first coach if they are to have a chance. I bet Maurice is gone in 6 weeks or less.

The team is not built defense first so that type of coach isnt going to work.

Would you agree that the present type of coaching is working?... This team lost pretty well every single impact defenceman less Morrissey and just lost Morrissey. The lineup looks very different from the last few years and certainly doesn’t play the same way. This team is no longer constructed as it once was. Time to change the tactics or change the personnel. History has shown us the former is a lot easier to do than the latter.

We all know Maurice is the next chip to fall. He's shown with a regular roster that this team can be successful. He isn't the problem and it's naive to think that a new coach will be any more successful with this current roster.

It happens all the time. There will be change on the coaching front and likely a tweak on the personnel front, and the team will improve. I don’t think that’s naive. That’s sports.
