Also you made a little mistake there DY. The last time the Northwest division won a Stanley Cup was in 2001 when my Avs accomplished mission 16W.
    Thanks VA. Damn Avs. Haha

    Fixed.

It's more Nonis than Gillis, and more Nonis + Gillis than Burke.

It's definitely not Nonis... Nonis on his own was useless. Burke and Nonis put some pieces in place that gave Gillis a lot to work with. Filling in the holes with the right players was all Gillis. He really deserves most of the credit here.

And yes... even with the Luongo deal I still don't think he had much to do with everything. He got lucky on that one, I don't think shrewd GM'ing had much to do with it.

I love how everyone thinks this is so lobsided in vancouver favor.

I said back in march or february (there is a thread about it) that final would be boston - vancouver

I think Boston has all the tools.

Canucks will only win if the referees play a stupid factor again.

If refs play like last night, bruins will take this.

And for the love of god, whoever says "i'm cheering for vancouver cause its a canadian team" is a big idiot. Bruins have a lot of canadians on their team. You can't cheer for a team that you hate all rest of the year.

Because I wanna put out a jinx in this thread

    Vancouver sweeps the bruins.

Keep being overconfident Vancouver. You have fluked your way to the finals, let's see if you can fluke your way winning it.

A big idiot... if you want the cup back in Canada? Interesting take...

Keep being overconfident??? I don't think you would find many educated Canucks fans that would even remotely say that this was a done deal. The fact the a lot of people are choosing the Canucks to win is because of the team they've built, the success they've shown, the accomplishments they've made and YES the luck they have had to get there. All of these combined create Captain Planet... and he always wins.

I don't think Dutch's post was trolling at all... he's not anti-vancouver, heck, he picked them some time ago to be in the final. And there are a lot of people who take issue with posts that make it sound like this won't even be a series, as if the Bruins didn't even belong here. If not for a series of bad calls, the fluke goal and an entire lineup of injured San Jose players, this might very well be a San Jose-Bruins final. If the Blackhawks had a better start in game 7, who knows, it might be a Chicago- or San Jose-Bruins final. If one of those many Tampa Bay shots that deflected like crazy in game 7 had changed angle by 20%, this might very well be a Tampa Bay - Vancouver final. The Canucks are incredible, but they haven't been good enough to discount anyone before the series even begins. Nobody has.

As for the "vote for any Canadian team" thing, that's actually not all that uncommon a complaint... I was listening to talk radio today and a lot of people were calling in complaining about that... Edmonton fans, for example, who suddenly are behind the Canucks. I don't have a problem with it myself, but that doesn't mean that others who do aren't allowed the opinion.

Which is to say, to disagree is not necessarily to troll. In my opinion.

I dunno TG, we may have different interpretations and that's fair and all, but the following really kinda sounds anti-Vancouver to me...

Either way, I like the Canuck's chances but think it is going to be a tough and hard fought series. If one were inclined to play the 'what if game' I could point out that the Bruins needed seven games to get past a decimated Montreal Canadiens D-corps... fact is though, that they did get past them. Both these teams deserve to be here, nobody fluked or got 'Gregory Campbelled' in...

If your team isn't in the finals, well tough shit. Try again next year*. Let's try watching and enjoying hockey instead of bunching our panties about how the 'other' teams fans suck... the refs were helping them... they just got lucky... etc, ad nauseum.

    * offer not valid in Florida (outside Tampa), Edmonton, Ottawa, or Toronto.... or Long Island (thanks TG)

** I, at present, have no f-ing clue as to whether or not that offer will be valid in Winnepeg next year...

Well... okay... perhaps not the most delicately put. But not quite trolling!

Anyway... full disclosure, I'm a Red Sox fan so anything I say about (some) Vancouver fans dismissing their opponents probably comes from a bit of a glass house. There's no denying it, we're worse than anybody!

Thomas can and has been lit up a few times. Luongo the same, but he has been playing a lot better since Schneider got the start. I would say the goaltending is about even. I think this comes down to the Canucks D and our shutdown forwards.
