Please let us know... that's interesting information!
It is true that the sizes differ but I don't actually follow SM-liiga so I had to do some research for you.

So the official NHL size is 61m X 26m. SM-liiga rinks are between 58-60m X 28-30m. HIFK uses a rink that is 60m X 28m so it is closest to the NHL size but Jokerit, JYP, Tappara&Ilves use the same size so it's nothing special.

    Hope this helps!

Granlund is not a sniper, he is a playmaker.

Have I just been officially bitch-slapped?

Granlund will remain in Finland for next year and will play for HIFK.

    Here's a link.

Sami Vatanen has stated he will most likely stay in Finland for a year as well, so I guess you're onto something! I think he should have gone to the AHL for next season since he was selected as the best defenseman in SM-liiga, so he has nothing to prove here. I guess he wants to get stronger and better all-around before crossing the pond.

Granlund probably wants to jump straight to the NHL and he can do it after a season, so I understand why he stayed. But it's not so easy for a d-man.

I came across this video of one of my favourite NHL prospects Mikael Granlund. I really enjoyed it!

    Two Warnings:
    1. The audio is in Finnish so be sure to click the "CC" to get the closed caption
    2. The video (two parts) is about 25 minutes long.

    Enjoy

The video is a bit dated (prior to getting drafted) but it's interesting to see how early the hype surrounded this kid in his own country.

Does anyone know if the SM-Liga has started yet.

When I went to check on one of the sites it looks like they have already played 6 games. Is that correct?

    If so he has 5 pts (2 g's and 3 a's) in 6 games.

What is the best site for finding out info and stats on this league? Also the SEL and KHL?

    Thx in advance.

No, SM-liiga season starts on September 15th.

The 6 games you saw are European Trophy games. It's European tournament for teams from 7 European countries (no KHL teams). Granlund has 6 points in 6 games in this tournament.

Well I guess eliteprospects.com is one site to find info and stats on those and other European leagues. There's direct links to the stats etc. which is useful since SM-liiga for example doesn't have english website.
