People don't hail things down on players' heads like that on every road game. Maybe a few people here and there, but not by the hundreds, and they get identified and tossed.

If there was a suspension, which perhaps there should have been, there should also have been a warning issued to the Lightning if they handed things out and this happened again.

Justin Bourne has a great take on the 5 most compelling story lines for tonights game.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...aining-content

    My favorite point:
    1. "Evenly matched" is an understatement

This gem of a nugget comes from Ted Starkey on Twitter (which it's probably time for you to get on, person reading this who still thinks it's silly):

The Bruins and Lightning head into game seven with exactly the same records — 46-25-11 in the regular season, and 11-6 in playoffs. And to make things even more perfect, tonight's contest is the 100th game of the season for both teams.

So we're 99 games in and we still don't know which of these differently-styled teams is better?

    Hockey rules.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

Go Bruins! Hope to see you in the Final.

Man that feels weird when I hate you every time you play the Habs & Leafs

    Hey 4T2,
love your write-ups. I've always thought Krejci did the little things good and was quite a play-maker. Do you think these playoffs are an anomaly, or is he learning to score?

(I'm in a goal heavy league).

His shots on goal do not seem to have increased, but from where and the placement to me seem like they have. Do you see this? Just curious if I'm seeing through rose colored glasses as I need a last keeper.

    thanks.
    Plug.

    P.S. Go Bruins!

    Thanks Plug.

Krejci is first and foremost a playmaker. He had 13 goals in 75 games this year. However, he is capable of lighting the lamp too as demonstrated by his 22 goals in the 08-09 season.

Since the Savard injury, Krejci has had to fill the role of playmaker moreso than goal scorer. I don't foresee a change in that. He has two wingers who are capable of potting 30+ goals. I think you will always see Krejci as an pass-first player.

While Krejci could score 25 goals, I think 18-20 is a more reasonable expectation for his regular season totals. He turns his game up in the playoffs though, so if your league counts playoff points, he is definitely a must-have guy.

Well, tonight is the big night. Anyone else as nervous as I am?

Don't get too worried if the Bruins drop game 1. Thomas is coming off a long rest and we all know that he plays better when he hasn't had multiple nights off.

Thomas' record in games where he has had 1 night off or played back to back
    9-3

Thomas' record in games with multiple nights off in between games
    3-3

This series features 4 games (the magic number) with only a one-day break. Thomas should be on top of his game for those nights.

Also, Vancouver has now went seven straight playoff series dating back the last 3 playoffs with winning Game 1. That's quite a streak. While we're all hoping that comes to an end tonight, it is not the end of the world to drop the first game.

I'm crazy busy this week but will try to post as much as I can. It's tough trying to concentrate at work, all I can think about is hockey. GO BRUINS GO!!!

Here's a great post from More Canadian Teams in the SCF thread, so good that I wanted to make sure everyone saw it:

A long long time ago and I can still remember how that announcement used to make me smile

And I knew if they had the chance that they could make Lord Stanley's dance

And maybe we'd be happy for a while.

But the Roulette wheel made me shiver. No Perreault did it deliver
Beer drinking by the gallon, who the hell is Dale Tallon?

I remember laughing til I cried when I read about Suitcase Smith hurting Ballards pride
Insulting dogs both far and wide. Yes the woman was one ugly bride.

So, why? why? do the Canucks come up dry
In '82 we had King Richard but were swept by the Isle
And in '94 Bure made us think he could fly
Singin' please win the Cup just once 'fore I die. Win the Cup just once 'fore I die

Do you agree with posts above? And do you have faith in Luongo's glove?
    If Goldman tells you so

Do you believe Dutch is really a Troll?
Can Dobber save your Fantasy Team's soul? Can he teach me how to draft gems real low?

Well, I know that Angus does as good a job, 'Cause his Ramblings fill what's missed by Dobb
    They both seem really nice
And I win using their advice

Oh Vancouver was a lonely team out on the coast, with a successful bid as an Olympic host
And for 39 years we were always toast,
    Each spring we were denied,
    We started singin'

So, why? why? do the Canucks come up dry
In '82 we had King Richard but were swept by the Isle
And in '94 Bure made us think he could fly
Singin' please win the Cup just once 'fore I die. Win the Cup just once 'fore I die

Now for 16 years we've been without luck, let's face it, we often really sucked
But that's how it used to be

When Messier came upon the scene and took up space for a load of green
With a C he scammed from 16 in a move that was scorned by you and me

Oh, and while the Moose was letting us down, Linden was shipped out of town
The management was absurd, #11 jersey's in effigy were burned

And while Keenan and Bure created sparks, each April the team played golf in the park
And we knew it couldn't get much more dark,
    each spring we were denied.
    We were singin'

So, why? why? do the Canucks come up dry
In '82 we had King Richard but were swept by the Isle
And in '94 Bure made us think he could fly
Singin' please win the Cup just once 'fore I die. Win the Cup just once 'fore I die

Sedin, Sedin, scouted by Thomas Gradin. Burke's genius stroke he tells everyone that he's seen.
Twins blooming late but rising fast, years of mediocrity left in the past.
The players needed a third with whom to pass, when along comes a disturber whose role was re-cast

The first line was now on track, While Kesler led the second line attack.
We all got ready for Stanley's dance. Oh but we never got the chance
'Cause again Shakedown's stupid Hawks refused to yield, once again Luongo's nerves unable to wield
It was a summer for passengers to be revealed
    The spring we were denied
    We started singing

So, why? why? do the Canucks come up dry
In '82 we had King Richard but were swept by the Isle
And in '94 Bure made us think he could fly
Singin' please win the Cup just once 'fore I die. Win the Cup just once 'fore I die

Oh, and there we were, in First Place. A President's Trophy and 3 in the scoring race
With time to spare and get some rest, for the real goal, the ultimate test.
So RidinRyan, be nimble, RidinRyan be quick, stomp on those who don't make the Canucks their pick
Your team coverage is the only one to view, way better than the one run by 4T2

First round against the Hawks again
They proved once more to be a pain
But just when things started looking bleak
A defining goal came from the guy with the beak

Against Nashville nobody played as well, Weber couldn't break #17's spell
Then as the Sharks do in nature, they met their plight.
The Orcas devoured them with delight
And we cheered well into the night
This spring we won't be denied

    We started singing:

My, My ,The Final is nigh
Bieksa scored the winner, wave the Sharks a good bye
No denial, bring the Final, I feel like I'm high
Singin' please win the Cup just once 'fore I die. Win the Cup just once 'fore I die

I met a member who covered the Bruins, whose English skills were in ruins
But I gave him some Rep anyway
Then I went down to the sacred thread. Where I trusted what I'd read
And RidinRyan said not to worry about Kaberle

And in the General Chat the haters screamed, Boston Fans whined, and Canuck Fans dreamed
Not a kind word was spoken, Boston/Van hatred was awoken

Though among the posters I admire the most, TG, and 4T2 were the first I'd roast
    Their friendship is temporarily toast
    Until, the Final is Tried

    And now I'm singin'

    Buy-Buy, me Dobber's Keeper Guide
I'm going to print it and frame it with your name inside
When it's done, I'll have won and I'll sit back and laugh
That's what it's costin', backin' Boston, Thieving Giraffe

So Buy, Buy, me Dobber's Keeper Guide
Once Vancouver wins the Cup I'll still let you keep your pride
But thinking of your loss warms me up deep inside
I think the Canucks will win the Cup 'fore I die.
However, as he is my sworn enemy for as long as this series goes, I must encourage everyone to give him hell for supporting the Canucks and claiming RidinRyan is doing a better job in the Canucks thread :P

Default Stanley Cup Final - Game 1 vs Vancouver Canucks - Game Notes

So the Vancouver Canucks took Game 1. Surprise, surprise. They won the West so they are going to win the Cup. The Bruins looked out matched. After all, Luongo looked WAY better than Thomas since he stopped more pucks. The Canucks really sunk their teeth into the Bruins, even literally at one point. Canucks are going to dominate Boston in every game and make a short series of this one.

Alright, end of the sarcasm for this recap.

All in all, this was not a fun game to watch for the first two periods. The referees made some horrible calls and both teams embellished quite a bit. Thank God the zebras swallowed their whistles for the third.

With just 18.5 seconds remaining, the game looked destined for overtime until Ryan Kesler made a beauty of a feed to Torres who netted the game winner. You could hear the collective groan from Boston come up the Eastern Seaboard all the way in Nova Scotia.

A few thoughts on the game:
Alex Burrows is hungry for the Cup
So hungry in fact that he decided Bergeron's finger would be a tasty snack. I'm all for letting guys get away with a little more at this stage of the season, but this needs to be dealt with. It's a dirty, p*ssy move that has absolutely no place in hockey. I wouldn't want to see him get more than 1 game though at this stage of the year. I hate to see anyone miss a game for their team right now.

    Goaltending
Two Vezina caliber goalies showed exactly why they are nominated for that prestigious award. I would argue that Thomas faced the tougher shots. A lot of Bruins shots were right to the chest of Luongo. Both goalies should be commended for their performances though. This could be a low-scoring series if they keep it up.

    Johnny Boychuk
He should have had Torres tied up. According to Angus, he has now been on the ice for the last 7 Bruins goals against. Given his sub-par performance in Tampa, there is no way he should be on the ice in the final minute of a tie game. I'm a big Boychuk fan normally, but if he isn't performing, give his time to someone else.

Anyways, sorry for the quick notes, a lot on my plate today. Don't feel too bad about the loss guys, it's only one game. The Canucks were goaded into playing hard-hitting defensive hockey last night. If they keep that up, this series will swing in Boston's favor. GO BRUINS GO!
