Although it's not on King's official website yet, it looks as though that the adaptation of the Dark Tower onto the big screen has been temporarily cancelled. Universal has bailed, but at least Imagine Entertainment (the production company) still has the rights and can shop around. I'm partly bummed, but also partly relieved since costs were an issue and I don't want this series to be cut too much and ruin this amazing story. It should be done right or not at all.

thanks for the update, horrorfan
though I too am disappointed, I completely agree that if money was a factor, I'm glad they didn't forge ahead. I'd really hate to see them cut corners because of budgetary concerns.
Maybe HBO will be interested, considering the success they are having with Game of Thrones. Although perhaps too major (expensive) undertakings would be too much for even them. Plus, perhaps they don't want to lose any of the GOT market audience to the Dark Tower. Personally, I'd gladly watch both.

Bag of Bones is being adapted into a four part miniseries on HBO:

(posted on SK's website on July 25th)
Also, for those who are interested in his new novel 11/22/63, here are the dates for the book tour:
November 7th Boston
November 10 & 11 Dallas
November 12 New Orleans
November 14 Sarasota
December 14 Atlanta
Taken this straight off his website as well, and more information will come.
For Dark Tower fans, his newest part of the amazing story The Wind Through The Keyhole will be released on March 12, 2012. It is set after DT4 Wizard & Glass and before DT5 Wolves of the Calla, and doesn't affect those who have already read the entire series. But it fills a gap in the story.

The two part Bag of Bones TV film will be on A&E on December 11th and 12th (two hours each night).

I don't read much, but when I do, I read the best
In my English class this semester we were each given an author to read, write, and work on throughout the semester. I was given William Faulkner so I had to read some of his books and short stories. He's a great writer and his books, though very difficult, are works of a master.

I generally enjoy The Stand and the Dark Tower series from King. Based some characters in my P&P rpg off some of his characters, like the ever-present Randall Flagg. He's a solid writer.

Those are my favourites as well. And I love how many of his stories have incorporated elements of the Dark Tower, and vice versa.
Speaking of the Dark Tower, here's a synopsis and cover artwork for the next instalment of the series, called The Wind Through the Keyhole. It's set in between Wizard & Glass (part four) and Wolves of the Calla (part five), so you can call it Dark Tower 4.5:
