allen - perhaps on a slightly worse team this year, but will get more starts, this year for sure, and still young and improving.

As much as I think Bishop is over-rated, I think Allen is even more so. At least one of them has played a full season in past. Allen has had more than 50 games played once in his 6 year professional career.

Setting aside the comparison with Bishop, I would be interested in why you consider Allen over-rated (is it only because of his small sample size), or are there other red flags to your mind?

I'm torn. I'd say Bishop if he was guaranteed to stick in TB but there is so much talk about a trade since the salaries are up against the cap and Vas is getting better. Where does Bishop go if he does get traded?

Bishop and it's not even close IMO. Better goalie, better team, less injury history. Yes Vas is there, but something has to move in that duo. If you have the transition year anyways, then the backup situation doesn't matter.
In the case that Bishop gets moved to a poorer team, then think Schneider. Top 5 goalie in the NHL, on a poorer team. I would still pick Schneider over Allen.

If you need to choose NOW, I'd lean Bishop. He's a better goalie, and has a chance to be on a better team (rating only TB > CGY > LV & most other teams who seem to need goalies)

If you don't need to choose now, don't choose now.

The biggest worry for me is that he's only been the best goalie on his team once in the past 5 seasons.

    15/16: Brian Elliott was better
    14/15: Brian Elliott was better
13/14: Allen was better than Matt Climie
12/13: Elliott was better in the NHL and Mike McKenna was better in the AHL
11/12: Alex Stalock (small sample size) and Ben Bishop were both significantly better

This right here. I never understand when people are down on Bishop. He's had a .924, .916, .926 sv% the three seasons that he's been a full time starter, he plays on a great team, and he's a workhorse. Yes, there's a solid prospect coming up behind him, but Vas is only 22, that's incredibly young to be taking over as a full-time starter, especially since Bishop is still only 29 and smack in the middle of his prime.

I take Bishop all day long over Allen. Bishop has played 60+ games in each of the last three seasons, Allen played the most he ever had last year at 47. I'll taken proven over potential, especially on what I view as a stronger team in the weaker conference.

No reason to not pick Bishop here. He's still the man in TB and will likely be for a while. They are trying to win a Cup. Stamkos signed long-term for this reason. I know they have to move him, but I do not think it's this year and even if he is moved he's still the better goalie imo. So he goes to a new team and still does his thing, still a tier 1 goalie.

Stats can tell you anything but to lose out to Elliott is no disgrace but isn't that what Allen has consistently done since Bishop left the Blues?
