    Default Ward, Smith, or Neither?

Never thought I'd be asking this, but I'm debating picking up a third goalie (and dropping someone...unless I can make a trade).

There aren't many starters available at the moment.

Ideally I'd want a starter - especially to cover up when (not if) Halak goes down.

The G available at the moment are
Ward (did fine in his debut)
Smith (is he back? he's looking good vs. LAK)
    Toronto goalies (LOL NO)
    Greiss (Backup for NYI)
Lehner (I have no faith in him ATM)
    Hutchinson (backup?)
Darling (Backup but useful for Sunday games)

Ideally, I could also grab Vas and put him up on my IR.

Alternatively, I could do nothing and try to trade to upgrade.

Greiss would be my first thought. NYI is going to be good team, and when (not if) Halak goes down, it gives you a better chance to pick up good stats. Ward is not a long-term solution, as is Smith. Smith would get more starts, as Lack would be challenging Ward especially since we just signed a deal with them. I would even give a shot at Bernier. Babcock will have the team be playing defense (for once) so that should help his peripheral stats.

Soooo.. What I'm saying is... Greiss, then Smith, then Bernier, then Ward. The others are too far down the pipe or not going to get you the starts you want or aren't reliable.

My thoughts on this are that avoid Griess and Bernier.

Griess has been around long enough and could never steal a starting spot, the leafs need more than Babcock to turn that team around.

I would roll the dice, and my feeling is that Ward will be the goalie out of this group that you should take.

Ward is a stanley cup winning goalie that is going into a contract year. He was not motivated since the Cup, but this is his year to shine. Ward is still only 31, and even though he lost more games than he won last season he had the best GAA (2.40) of his career and his S% (.910) was not bad.

Since Halak is going IR, I would grab Smith too.

Mike Smith looked good in their opener vs the Kings. I think Smith got a bad rap last year but is still a solid starting goalie. Arizona is a young, improving club. They could surprise a few this year.

    Smith for me.

I like Smith out of these goalies too. He seems to be at a really low fantasy value and should surprise this year.
