Mike Smith or Jimmy Howard from here on?
Full Keeper Dynasty 16 Teams. Who would you prefer?
Smith had one of the worst seasons for a starter in NHL history, but should be a safe bet to be the undisputed starter once again in Arizona, while Howard plays for a way better team, but may have lost his starting gig to youngstar Mrazek.
Who do you prefer for the next 3-5 years, and why?

Why does it have to be those 2? Own them or trading for them? My take is none of them if your looking 3-5 years ahead. Take Howard and see if theres anyway u can trade him. Maybe to the Mrazek owner or a Detroit man ASAP. Taking Smith whos value right now is very low I doubt u will be able to get rid of for another starter.

This is a tough question. Next season, I think I might prefer to have Howard because he will at least be in a timeshare on a good team. Smith, on the other hand as you said, is the guy on a pretty awful team. Howard will be a low-end #2 / great #3 goalie in a lot of fantasy leagues next year, but Mike Smith could be waiver wire fodder. Beyond next season, if you just need some contribution I would prefer Smith because I think Mrazek is going to be seeing the bulk of the starts by then.
I'm a big fan of Mrazek and I think Howard's days are numbered, especially with Blashill leading the charge now. We'll see how it shakes out, but give me Howard next season. Smith beyond that. But neither are really going to be good options at that point.

Yeah, I should've just said that. Howard will be better next season, and after that I don't really think either will have much value. BUT ... Howard is the guy with a shot of having reasonable value, while Smith will just be consistently middling - to - bad.Originally Posted by CHunter

Smith is nothing more than a 3rd/4th goalie in a 16 team format.
Howard will at least give you a fighting chance.

Howard. He's signed for 4 more years at 5 million plus per year. That alone gives he a chance to be a starter. Smith and/or Arizona? No thanks.

This isn't even close to me. Even if Mrazek steals away some of the starts, Howard still has the contract and I'd much rather have Howard for 50 starts than Smith for 60.

I don't like Howard's chances of remains the starter in Detroit after this upcoming season (big contract and all), but I would still take him over Mike Smith.
