i dont blame him, this is his only change to cash in on a big contract. lots of teams looking for goalies, but not many good ones available for free via FA...i think just him and niemi are the worthwhile ones. i think most teams would rather take a slightly worse contract for a free UFA goalie than give up quality assets for teams looking to trade one.

I would be surprised if this turns into a story, still so early. I'm curious what the Wild's first offer was.

They both need each other so this is where the negotiating teams will earn their keep.

I am still in the camp that says the two sides come to an agreement in the next few weeks. The team wants him back and Dubnyk knows that Minnesota is the best place for him to play so I see no reason they can't agree on the numbers.

He is right to take advantage of his situation and play hard ball but the Wild were such a good fit and there's no guarantee of success in another place. Money is one thing he should be looking to keep himself relevant long-term so that he can "cash in" a few more times in the future.

I'm currently attempting to sell high in a dynasty league, so hopefully this is kept on the d-low, relatively speaking.

i think he's looking to pull a bryzgalov and sign a "give me all the money in the world" type contract so he never has to worry about signing another one again.

bryz was in a great situation, coming off a vezina nominee season IIRC. he would have signed for less dollars and who knows if his play would have kept up long enough to sign another big contract. its better for an unproven goalie like dubnyk to cash in now while he can.

This is to be expected... after his performance last year, Dubie would be a fool not to negotiate hard for a substantial pay day here. I don't think the Wild have many other feasible long-term options.

I think Minny is the best place for him but San Jose wouldn't be a bad fit either. I think SJ makes some pretty significant moves in the off-season (free agent pickups not only in nets but mainly on D) and I can see them throwing some money at Doobie. They have plenty of cap space going into next year.

Default What about Dubnyk's next contract?

    Short term? Long term?

With Minny? Or will he try free agency?

    Thoughts?

Since he had only one good season I'll bet 4 years for 20M....with Minny.

I heard today on TSN radio that talks between Dubnyk and the Wild weren't going as planned.. This would be very unfortunate for both parties if they parted ways..

Also unfortunate for fantasy owners. And that, my friends, matters most.

I agree with regards to the sjs sharks being a darkhorse landing spot for him.
