KO'd by McLaren
Wow, Welcome to the NHL! In all seriousness, hopefully he's ok. |

Fighting will always be part of the North American game, but every time I see a guy go face first to the ice, my stomach absolutely drops. Scary stuff. Then I was thinking, what if the NHL required some sort of padding for guys who want to fight, or just make guys keep their mitts on? I know it would never fly but watch this fight and tell me that ultrahazardous boxing will always be part of the game...

A little out of his weight class I'd say. 2 inches 25lbs.

That was brutal.
Not sure if it was his call or the coach's but he had no business fighting McLaren. Out sized, out experienced, out skilled.

I'm not a big fan of staged fights like that. I prefer the fights which attempt to accomplish something. Like when Marty tried to send a message by running Dougie. And Wendel, giving up about 5 inches and 30 or 40 pounds, stepped in to show Marty some Saskatchewan consequence. That's heart and soul stuff. That's what made Wendel a legend and why so many of us adored him.
Having said that, staged or not, players are going to get hurt in hockey sometimes. Fighting is a part of that. I don't like to see it happen, especially not in such a brutal way like tonight. But I'm also tired of the anti-fighting groups using events like this to promote their agenda. Fighting has a place in hockey. Deal with it. |
