KO'd by McLaren

Wow, Welcome to the NHL!

In all seriousness, hopefully he's ok.

Fighting will always be part of the North American game, but every time I see a guy go face first to the ice, my stomach absolutely drops. Scary stuff. Then I was thinking, what if the NHL required some sort of padding for guys who want to fight, or just make guys keep their mitts on? I know it would never fly but watch this fight and tell me that ultrahazardous boxing will always be part of the game...

A little out of his weight class I'd say. 2 inches 25lbs.

That was brutal.

Not sure if it was his call or the coach's but he had no business fighting McLaren. Out sized, out experienced, out skilled.

McLaren allegedly challenged him to fight and was rejected. However when the puck dropped Dziurzynski dropped the gloves.

It was scary. Watching him try and walk off was awful.

I'm not a big fan of staged fights like that. I prefer the fights which attempt to accomplish something. Like when Marty tried to send a message by running Dougie. And Wendel, giving up about 5 inches and 30 or 40 pounds, stepped in to show Marty some Saskatchewan consequence. That's heart and soul stuff. That's what made Wendel a legend and why so many of us adored him.

Having said that, staged or not, players are going to get hurt in hockey sometimes. Fighting is a part of that. I don't like to see it happen, especially not in such a brutal way like tonight. But I'm also tired of the anti-fighting groups using events like this to promote their agenda. Fighting has a place in hockey. Deal with it.
