Default Granlund

So I just acquired him in a trade. I know he was pegged an early Calder favorite pre-season, but really has not shown up offensively on the score sheets. I still really like his potential from clips I have seen and things I have read in the past. Where do you guys see him next year as far as performance level? Any early point/state projections?

I want to shoot for a win this season and made a trade where I moved B.Smith, Loktionov, Scheifele, and a 2013 1st for Tanguay, Wideman and Granlund.

I am not expecting a whole lot for the rest of this season from Granlund and one of the pieces I moved was Scheifele who was warming my bench so he actually is providing me some additional offense this season even if its not a lot.

Gman has taken a giant 'dump' this season. He gets a pass for this season since Turdis got a 6 year pass.

Minny better figure this kid out soon. hes got Claude Giroux like skillz.

Patience is required. He isn't getting much opportunity in Minnesota. And the entire team isn't scoring all that much. The talent is still there for sure. He is a terrific "buy-low" candidate. I just love how people have unreal expectations on rookies and then are ready to dump them if they don't put up 60+ pts as a rookie.

To answer your question, I wouldn't necessarly expect him to put up more than 50 pts in a full 82 game season next year, unless he really clicks (which is definitely possible).

I have a personal connection to Minnesota's coach, so I hate saying this, but if the team doesn't turn around their play for the rest of this season and early next season, I could see him get fired and a new coach might give Granlund more opportunity.

Expectations were very high in Minnesota after bringing in Parise and Suter, along with all the rookies in their system, and I don't think management/ownership will show a lot of patience if the results don't start improving.

Agreed!! Usually with these highly touted rookies we pay a high price to acquire them weather it be a 1st rd pick or via trade and you don't want to be stuck with a high priced lemon !! LOL

I think it's really important to gather as much info as possible before blindly trading a stud prospect whose only getting 10-11 min of ice time! I traded Stamkos in his rookie season for 2 players that would help me win that year (Finished 2nd) and I've been kicking myself for it ever since. The best advice I can give is Minny hasn't given Granlund a long enough leash to succeed and if the comparisons turn out to be true and he is the next Giroux and you dump him you will regret it for a very long time !? Good Luck

funny you mention this...although I said it is important to be patient with rookies, I actually traded Granlund AND Yakupov in the league in my signature in an attempt to win the league. Now it is looking like I will not win anyway, and I'm already regretting my decision. I know I wouldn't have regretted my decision if I ended up winning, though...

Be patient with Granlund.. Its tough for a kid to come over seas and prodice in his first year.. Especially in a shortened season..

This hits the nail on the head. IMO, they should have let him marinade in the AHL for another season.

He does show flashes of brilliance. Hopefully the organization doesn't treat him the way they did James Sheppard.

He is unownable in a redraft at this point and in a limited keeper I would very very hesitantly own him. I think he will be a hell of player but he is going to need time to develop.
