If you were an NHL GM looking for a future top pairing dman for your team, which of these 2 would you choose?
Who do you think will be better defensively and who do you think has the higher point potential? |

Brodin on both. Bogosian will get better peripherals in fantasy though, if that matters.

Bogosian on all three accounts. He's a stud. Brodin is also great young D-man but I have no doubt in my mind that NHL GM's would take Bogosian over Brodin if given the chance.

I agree with the above. Bogo is a beast physically and his skating is superb. Based on those two things alone no NHL GM would/should choose Brodin over him.

I'm kind of confused what you mean by "NHL GM looking for a future top pairing dman for your team." GMs are thinking in terms of not just the next 2-3 years but for the next 5-10. Between Brodin and Bogosian, you might want Brodin if you're thinking that far ahead. However, we don't have to concern ourselves with that, if that's what you're thinking.
Remember, keeper is in regard to the next 2-3 years. In this way, Bogo wins over Brodin defensively and offensively. Brodin has more defensive upside, granted but he hasn't shown to be a Hamilton-type that can seamlessly transfer over his play. Also, the addition of Suter long-term to the wild means that Brodin will probably never get PP1 time and will be relied upon as a stay-at-home defenceman when he does come to the NHL. I don't see Bogosian as a defensive stalwart in terms of how he positions himself and the risks he takes in moving up the ice. Granted, these are attributes one improves as one gets older but within the next 2-3 years, he could move to up to 1st line EV to compliment Enstrom and getting to be the staple on PP2. Some things to note is that he's always been a good hitter and his skating has been improving ever sine he got drafted.

A lot of this is intuition - it's hard to fairly compare a 19 year old with 18GP in the NHL to a 22 year old with 4+ years of NHL experience. I voted Brodin because I think he is the more intelligent player and Bogosian strikes me as the type who will miss significant time due to injury. I think in 3 years - when Brodin is 22 - he will be better than Bogosian is now at the same age.
