the crosby affect on malkin
Has crosby had a negative effect on malkin???
Havn't had the pleaseure of watching too many pit games... looking at malkins stats he seems to still be at or higher than a ppg pace, but is definately off his pace a year ago... I noticed that neal is spending more time flanking crosby and malkin has been moved to the point on the ppp..... anyone have any insight? Is it time Malkin leave pitt and be the man on his own team???

Malkin's line has been pretty bad on even strength. It's been a while since they've scored on ES and overall Malkin has very few ES points this year. Crosby's not the issue here. It's on Malkin (and Neal too). He needs to play a lot better. Simple as that.

I don't really have any stats to back this up, but over the years to me it seems like Malkin steps up his game to another level and shoulders the team when Crosby is out of the lineup.
His stats are ok, but in the few games I've watched he hasn't been his dominant, creative self.

He can easily score 8 points in 2 games and put all doubts to rest.

I think he needs a change of scenery....perhaps a trade to the Senators would be in everyone's interest

The number of points (goals+assists) that all the players on a certain team get, is to a certain extent, a zero sum number. So basically, Pittsburgh will get a certain number of goals and assists in this season. (That number is high relative to probably all other teams in the league.) So it's a matter of who is going to get those points. Right now Crosby and Kunitz are racking them up. And to a lesser extent, Dupuis and Letang, as well as Malkin and Neal. So to a certain extent, while Crosby is being himself, and Kunitz is drastically overproducing, and Dupuis is overproducing, Malkin and Neal will be the other side of the teeter totter.
