Am I ridiculous for considering this?? I'd love my offense to soar this year, and this may be the deal to get it done.
I was offered: Alex Semin + JVR for Ovechkin + Joel Ward (who was a waiver pickup) I'm huge on JVR.. and think he and Semin can both hit 70+ (a high shot for JVR, but he's really coming into his own). Am I selling OV short? Or is this a solid return on a player who may simply be on par with these 2 going forward?

No, I think there is more to Ovechkin than this down season. Semin and JVR both are good and have some good potential, but Ovechkin is on a completely different level, and I think OV has some great seasons ahead of him.

You might not necessarily be selling short on OV so much as you are buying high on Semin. Semin looks fantastic right now but remember he is both streaky and injury prone that's the BAWW combo that you want to avoid. JVR has nice potential but is reaching that point in his career where he's unlikely to reach it.
I'd just sooner see you landing some more reliable commodities moving Ovechkin but I'm also one of those stubborn Ovechkin owners who won't let go of his dominant past.

Like MD said, Semin is streaky and injury prone.
JVR looks primed for a good season, but what happens when Lupul returns. Hold Ovie, it's actually not even close. You could easily get more from another GM.

Even if I didn't believe in Ovechkin as much as I do, this is still much too little to be selling Ovechkin on. Semin is a good player no doubt, but if I'm moving Ovechkin I need a really good player coming back in return just to get some consideration to move Ovechkin. JVR is obviously a huge step up from Ward, but these are very minor pieces, in what is a big trade, so they shouldn't hold much merit.

Ovechkin could likely fetch more. Do yourself a favour and shop around.
