I like it for you! I hate to give up Neal, but I see it like this:
Toews>Neal Yandle >> Erhoff Lucic = Clowe You win!

I'm honestly thinking I'd decline this one. As for the rest, Yandle is > Ehrhoff and Lucic is probably a bit of an upgrade on Clowe. Even still, it's borderline. If you think you're set with goal scorers, take it, if not, don't bother.

For arguments sake lets say that Neal is better than Toews, thus you are giving up the best player in the deal, and even in such case you win the deal. Neal vs. Toews is very much debateable, I personally would rather have Toews just because I believe that he can do better than Neal can in a full 82 game schedule, regardless of line mates.
To me Lucic is a clear upgrade over Clowe, and you of course are getting Lucic. Yandle is a definite step up over Ehrhoff. Yandle > Ehrhoff > Giorandano, so if you can keep Ehrhoff and trade Giordano that would be another plus in your favour. So lets say Neal for Toews is a lateral move, you are still getting clear upgrades in Lucic and Yandle, this is a clear win for you, and a good trade. |

I think that as long as Neal is playing with one of the two studs in Pittsburgh and he is producing the way he is, I wouldn't do it. Yes, Yandle is better than Ehrhoff, but not by a wide margin. He hasn't done anything this year.
I find that when it comes to deals and the players that are being offered, people get hung up on names. Perry...oooooo MVP!! Yandle...oooo so many good seasons Toews....ooooo jerk off material for Canadian media There are many other names like this too. But if guys are not producing, especially in a sprint like shortened season like this (not saying Toews isn't producing, but he is not on Neal's level) then why take them? Sure you hope they will start to do so, but imo, if you look at their history, then that will give you a better feel of where they are going. I'll take Neal any day over Toews. Yandle is in Phoenix and they are a mess. His stats aren't really going to be much better than Ehrhoff's this year, especially with Myers suffering the same disease that Weber, Doughty and Green have...big contract nothing to play for, let's start sucking disease.....so I don't see him as an upgrade either. Lucic over Clowe, sure I'll buy into that, but only slightly as SJ is a much better offensive team than Boston. Maybe I have the minority opinion here, but I'd prefer your current three over the three being offered.

the only part i like about that offer is Lucic for Clowe.
No way i trade Toews for Neal..i'm a big fan of both, but Neal is a stud in PIT Yandle (see OEL..) for Erhoff isnt great either, if you can make the Erhoff for Giordano swap then thats two of three.. Last edited by finnys_fanatsy; 02-15-2013 at 08:40 AM. |

I would 100% do it. I think Yandle is most definitely better to own than Erhoff. Clowe although he gets PIM is no where near the player Lucic is. Toews is probably the best player he is offering you and granted Neal is hot right now and at the moment the best player in the deal, you are getting 3 quality players and IMO giving up just one.
Like a lot of people I am not one who likes to give up the best player in the deal, but value wise I consider this heavily in your favor.

I like this deal in terms of the assets coming back to you, although it is not ideal when you take into account your specific team make-up. You will be extremely strong at C but weakened at RW if you make this deal.
That said, you'll have some wonderful trade assets going forward to make up for that gap. For me getting Yandle over Ehrhoff is really nice, especially if Yandle is traded, he could explode. I also like Lucic over Clowe, similar players but Lucic has more goal-scoring/point production potential and there's also Clowe's injury history. Finally, unlike others, I think Toews is a big time player and easily matches up with Neal - in fact, of the two of them, I'd wager when we look back in 10 years, Toews will have the greater point totals, he'll notch 75-85 for the next 10 years, with the odd low 70s and 85+ seasons. I'd say take the deal.
