Hey guys,
Would love to get your opinion on Spurgeon and his future potential. Do you think he will be a decent off defenseman? I am in a dynasty league so I am debating picking him up. Thanks, Drift

It's too bad that Spurgeon only got in a few games before getting injured.
Much of his value, in terms of immediate production / return. will depend on whether he gets significant PP time. The Wild's PP has been horrible in his absence. Until recently they had PMB back there with Suter and with 4 forwards on the PP and it's been a disaster, so good sign last night when, in Spurgeon's first game back, he was on PP1 with Suter. In a keeper league, Spurgeon has the potential to be a solid 40+ point dman, if he gets decent pp time. Last year he had 23 pts in 70 games, with good shot totals for a young Dman. To me, that spelled an increase this year to say mid 30s point production. I'd watch the next few games to see (a) if he stays on the top PP unit, and (b) if that unit starts to produce. Hope that helps.

This is bang on. I was at the game the other night and watched Spurgeon quite closely. He's very creative, especially on the PP. He's a better puck mover than Suter. The big problem is.....Minny is really just not very good. They really struggle to score and that is going to keep both D's point totals way down. When their best player Vs the Canucks is Matt Cullen......... Spurgeon has solid upside, but until that team finds a way to score, they're in trouble. I'd also be worried if I were a Suter owner in a ny pool that counts just points. He'll be hard pressed for 20 this season.
