Default Massive blockbuster

12 team H2H league. Keep 7 vets plus 3 prospects (skater < 201 GP; goalie < 101 GP)

Start 3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 5 D, 2 G.
8 Bn

G, A, P, PIM, +\-, PPP, SOG, Hits, Blocks, FW
W, Sv, Sv%, Gaa, SHO

I've got a very good team:

C: Crosby, M. Koivu, Zajac, Stastny, Huberdeau (p)
LW: Ovechkin, Benn (c), Pacioretty, Prust, Steen (c)
RW: Malkin (c), Iginla, Brown (lw), Voracek, Tarasenko
D: Subban, Keith, Kronwall, Green, Carle, Carlson
G: Rinne, Price, Vokoun
IR: Letang

Here's a deal that is being considered by both parties:

I send:
Price, Letang, Benn, Stastny

I get:
Varlamov, Brodeur, Karlsson, Perry

Old keepers:
Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Benn, Letang, Price, Rinne, Hubs (p), Tarasenko (p), Subban (possible p - otherwise I'd have to look at a trade).

New keepers:
Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Perry, Karlsson, Rinne, Varlamov + plus the same prospect group.

So basically, this year I get a goaltending boost to some extent as I get three viable starters.

Longterm the trade-off is the following:

Benn, Letang, Price
vs
Perry, Karlsson, Varlamov

Thoughts on the deal? Short-term benefit is nice, what about the longterm angle. Which side would you prefer longterm?

Other considerations: Gives me a keeper spot to look to upgrade (Varlamov). Better high-end talent with Karlsson. Also, both Benn and Malkin might only get C next year. They should. Perry is a bona fide RW and trading Benn for Perry (essentially) helps with the potential C clusterf***.

Much thanks if you've managed to wade through all this!

Its pretty close but I don't think I would do it. I actually prefer Benn to Perry, and Price is far better than Varly or Brodeur in a keeper (my opinion). Karlsson would be nice, but Letang is no bum either, assuming he can get and stay healthy sometime soon. Like I said, it's close but I personally wouldn't do it - though I can see how the C thing might help convince you to do it....

I don't think you can afford to lose Price and get back Varly. Although I have a lot of faith in Varlamov, Price is clearly the superior keeper goalie. And as I'm sure you know, goalies in roto can make or break you.

I like the the side you currently have given those cats. I don't think I'd do this trade.

One more pertinent detail:

Two goalies kept maximum starting this year. One guy has Lundqvist, Quick, and Halak. I can make a play for one of those three (likely Halak) and keep that goalie instead of Varlamov.

Given that he's losing the 3rd goalie anyway, a trade like Varlamov/Brodeur + Zajac/Steen/Voracek + 3rd rounder might be enough to pry away Halak at least.

Change anyone's opinion?

I'd rather the Price side. I don't think you should make a deal, and then hope you can upgrade with another deal. Unless you have the other one in place, I wouldn't count on it.

Wow, I'm surprised by the one-sided response.

I offered this, and it was turned down as is. A counter is in the works.

Love to get more responses, just to see if a large-scale response is also this one-sided.

Thanks all!

Edited bc I don't know how to add a poll.

I agree with the others - I like your side better and Price vs Varlamov is the big reason. I like Benn over Perry as well. The only real upgrade you get IMO is Karlsson over Letang and that one is marginal considering how big losing Price for Varly would be.
