Default Tyson Barrie...what up?

Had expected big things from Barrie this season with seemingly a couple of spots available on the Avs blueline this year. Has been a healthy scratch more times than not and completely ineffective offensively.

I watched him against Vancouver and the weird thing was that he was completely competent defensively but very tentative offensively.

Can anyone who has watched him play this year comment?

For most games I've found he's the complete opposite. He knows when to pinch, is getting the hang of running a PP but is a deer in headlights in his own zone. He needs to get a bit stronger too as he's not winning a lot of battles against the boards.
The avs have too many D right now, and their way of thinking right now is they want big, tough to play against defenseman. The problem with this of course is they're susceptible to attacks from smaller, faster forwards.
There really is no method/pattern to when Barrie is put in the lineup by Sacco, its usually when Shane O'Brien or Matty Hunwick have crap games that he's put in the next game.

Fantasy wise he's pretty much useless this year. Keep an eye on if the Avs deal any of their D, because he's next in line to step up.

As an Avs fan, I've watched a few games, but tbh, haven't been following Barrie closely - to me, he's very invisible. Mostly, I take note when EJ carries the puck but a lot of that is likely due to name recognition.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help

This is actually news to my ears...the fact that he hasn't lost his offensive instinct and is still learning the defensive side of the game is fine by me. Defence can be taught...

Yup, it'll take a while for him to get his chance, definitely has that offensive flair that had him light up the AHL though, just needs to produce points wise when he plays in the bigs.

With EJ injured, Barrie was in the lineup and picked up a couple of assists.

He was very effective last night and looks like he is rounding into form. With EJ (also known as Mr. Overrated) out, Barrie is getting a chance on the number one power play. I thought he did a good job last night of passing at the right time and shooting when the way was clear. I haven't tuned into many Avs games so far this year, but I imagine it takes a while for a player to get comfortable with new teammates and becoming an NHL regular. It will be interesting to see how they utilize Stefan Elliott now that he's been recalled.

Barrie is here to stay.

He's a poor man's Matt Carle to me, good offensively, great passer. Smaller, and weaker, too small to defend in front of the net or muscle anyone off the puck, so he will be nice in offense only leagues (easily could see 40+ points in the future), but of modest value in multi-cats.
