(That should be 'waiting' in the title - wish we could edit that! Mod please!)
I am sure we've all grabbed players who were highly touted years ago, had them sit on our team for years thinking they would eventually pay off big and be worth the spot they take up while producing little or nothing. You have a hard time dropping them after years without production since they've occupied a spot for so long...and every once in a while they may tease you with a hint that they are bound for stardom...but there comes a time when you just have to let go...O'Sullivan is one guy I held on to for far too long. Recently I gave up on Dalpe, still have him in one league but I just haven't gotten around to scouting the WW for a replacement yet. I am starting to get the same feeling about Rundblad too - getting sick of seeing him just sitting on my team (probably too early to count him out but its getting there). Last year it was Frolik, who I gave up a lot for in two leagues a while back - interestingly Voracek was the main piece going back in both, and I bet he is getting close (to being tossed) on a lot of GM's lists. So what players are you finally sick of waiting on? (In a few of my leagues Filatov is still on a few rosters - now that's holding out. I gave up on him a couple of yrs ago, but he was a guy I gave up a lot for 4-5 years ago.)

Forgot about him! Excellent choice - I just dropped him a few days ago in the second league in my sig and grabbed O'Reilly.

This is more about getting rid of someone you've held onto for a while, but I'll still put my two cents in.
Ovechkin. Gave up on him in the offseason for a first round pick. Lots of people disagreed (and still do) but my squad is stronger because of it. I took him in the first year of our pool and spent about 30% of my budget on him because I thought it was just a down year. I'm thankful not to have him on my team. I recently gave up on Weber for this year and traded him straight up for Subban. I know I'll get a lot of flack for that move as well, but I don't have time for Weber to find his groove in this shortened season if I want to take home the title this year. I think he'll be back to his old self next year, but like I said, I need the Shea Weber of old right now and not the guy he is pretending to be. Plus, my defense is pretty strong anyway.

Voracek is the big one for me....picked him up two seasons ago, I really liked him as a prospect and thought he was developing well in Columbus. Then he was traded to Philly and I was super jazzed about him. That playoff run he had last spring, then the Giroux news....I thought this was gonna be his year. He's been better the last few games but still disappointing.
Trevor Daley is an old nemesis of mine. He always shows flashes of the puck mover he was in junior, but at the end of the year he has 25 points. I've owned him on more than a few fantasy teams over the years, and I still get suckered into going back to that well every now and then.

Frolik for sure, but my biggest cast off would have to be Erik Johnson. Hell, I am still drunk from the 2010 kool-aid bender I went on.

If there was a poll, I'd just about guarantee that Voracek would win.
Proof that a player needs hockey sense to make it big in the NHL. Great skating (Voracek) and decent hands (Voracek) just isn't, somehow, enough. |
