Default Who are some buy-low candidates?

We've seen our share of surprises so far this year (Vanek, anyone?). and also our share of equally surprising slow starts. What players should we, as Dobberites and fantasy hockey professionals, be targeting before they turn things around? I've got:

Kessel
Weber
Seguin
Quick
Carter
Bieksa

Who else have you guys targeted?

I really want to say Ovechkin. I hope I'm right.
Lundqvist is another.

Not sure either of those two will be easy to grab.

Iginla is still pretty dormant. He could come cheaper than warranted.
I'm hoping Goligoski is one.

There's a thread on this in the One-Year forum but seems to have died after just a few replies.

Here's what I got (posted in the other thread):

Quote:
Some guys I'm frustrated with on my own team but sticking with them..

Kipprusoff - currently 1 Win, 3.42 GAA, and .859 SV%. I realize I couldn't get a bag of pucks for him right now, but as I'm researching potential trade targets I noticed a couple of interesting things regarding Kipper. First of all, the Flames as a team have allowed only 150 SOG against them this season. That's the fewest shots-against in the league and prorates to 2,050 shots against in a full 82-game season. But LAST Year, the team allowed 2,528 SOG (2,040 seen by Kipper) and he sported a 2.35 GAA and .921 SV%.

Basically, he's too good a goalie to keep letting in such a high percentage of shots. And as bad as the Flames seem this year, they're not letting up too many shots which I think bodes well for Kipper as the season continues.

Semin - I have him on my team and plan on keeping him, but I think he's a buy-low. He has 1 goal on 35 shots, which is a 2.9 Shooting%. His Career AVERAGE is 13.8%. Hell, his lowest ever shooting% aside from his rookie year was last season, shooting at 11.5%, and we all know what things were like for him last season.

Basically, he's too good and accurate of a shooter to finish the season with 6 goals (his current pace). I'm expecting a big surge at some point (hopefully stays healthy). I don't think he'll be dirt cheap because he does have 6pts in 8 games, plus he has that big name recognition, but I'd be trying to land him if I didn't already have him.

Doughty - Last one. Again I have him, but I think he's a decent buy-low candidate much for the same reason as Semin. Currently Goal-less, but with 17 SOG in 7 games, he's on pace for a total of 116 in this season (199 in a full-season - his career high was last year with 168).

Basically he's shooting more than ever, and if he scores at around his career shooting % of 7.3%, then we should see about 8 or 9 goals out of him.

I could see adding RNH to the list.

Just looking at my pathetic roster:

Seguin- At least looks to be playing well, should be scoring at a good clip despite relatively low TOI/G

Perry- Something is going on in Anaheim, I'm not sure if they have approached Perry the same way they already have Getzlaf with regards to re-signing. He seems to be playing without much heart similar to B.Ryan last season amongst the trade rumors. I wouldn't pay much for him right now.

Phaneuf- Trying his best to play well defensely, failing miserably at that too. Not even sure if he has a point yet so he can't really be much worse. Should be an easy guy to buy.

RNH- Puzzling. Although he is quite sound defensively, Kruger(sp) doesn't trust him enough to play during OT, even when Horcoff is out with a broken hand. In general, there is a much more defensive focus and the top line has been marginalized. Also, the emergence of a viable second PP unit has seemingly hurt his production. Kruger appears to play a more defensive game with a more tentative zone entry, typically seeing the wingers enter well before the C, and thus Hall, Yakupov, and to a lesser degree, Eberle, appear to benefit the most. I don't know if he will have a great season.

Goalies who are under performing:

Ryan Miller
Jimmy Howard
King Henrik
Ondrej Pavelec

Dmen who have under performed (besides the ones already mentioned):

Ryan Suter
JJohnson
Giordano
Faulk

Forwards who are slow to get it going:

Giroux (surprised no one else mentioned him yet)
Both Sedins are slow to get it going so far but Henrik is worse right now
Nick Backstrom
Blake Wheeler (seems to be a common thing with him, starting slow)
Jakob Voracek
Ryan Callahan (i know he's hurt but really wasnt doing much prior to the injury)
Drew Stafford

I am not saying you are going to fleece anyone of these guys, but right now these are some of the guys I see underperforming to date in this shortened season. If you are looking to sell someone high, these would be some of the guys I would be looking at to try and get before they turn it around.

Good luck!

Wheeler has 9 points in 9 games this season. Can't see how that's underperforming. He went pointless in the first 2 games; that's it. That's not even starting slow; that's fantasy GM's being way too impatient. He's been very good so far with the exception of having poor +/-.
