Phaneuf, 10th RD pick for Pietrangelo, 5th RD pick.

I posted a month ago about a trade that was proposed to me. The GM wanted Phaneuf for Pietrangelo and I decided to go against it because Phaneuf is much better in my league based on the categories.

However, I've been shitting the bed in +/- and Phaneuf has been a problem there. The Leafs are, in true Leafs fashion, showing signs of no improvement.

I was able to work a trade with the GM to include a 5th round pick in next years draft while I sent back a 10th. I think this is now a great trade weighted in my favour, but I wanted to see what you folks think.

How much was Phaneuf worth last year and how much was Pietrangelo worth? Unless the math says I'm wrong (I dont play with blks or hits), I would take this deal quickly.

I think that Phaneuf's numbers will be pretty constant for the rest of his career. Pietrangelo on the other hand will score more goals, get more assists and take more shots going forward. I think he'll be scoring 60 point seasons, starting now.

I drafted Phaneuf for his hits, PIMS, SOG and a bank of about 40 pts or so. No doubt Pietrangelo is a great defenseman, but in our pool he wouldn't be considered as valuable.

However, I'm lagging in assists, I want to improve my +/- and I think Pietrangelo is a better option moving forward.

I like Pietrangelo's situation a heck of a lot more than Phaneuf's. I also think AP is the better defensemen, maybe not as good in some peripherals as Phaneuf but good enough everywhere to make the trade very worth it.

One thing that needs to be made very clear to everyone is that this will mainly be a one-year decision regarding the players given the number of keepers. Keep this in mind when considering the advice given and your decision.

So the main questions are:

- Will AP help you more than Phaneuf given ALL categories and your squad as a whole this season? Yes you mention what you need, but I wouldn't focus solely on it. Will the potential increase in offensive production going forward this season (don't look at totals to date, rather from this point) will help you more than Phaneuf's all round production?
- Furthermore, will the 5th round pick be significantly better than a 10th round pick next year? Furthermore, does this really mattern as much, considering the size of your squad and limited keepers i.e. one increased draft pick in essentially a one-year setting, so you're drafting pretty much a full roster.
- Also, you say you need assists and +/-, so be specific on how far back you are and whether guys you have already will be enough to get you back in those categories. What's done is done. For example, since that horrible week Phaneuf has been a +2.

This is not a deal in a vacuum, look at the big picture and provide that info to help us help you.
