Default Nash for Seguin

Hi everyone,

I've been on the forums for the past year, however this is my first post

Currently in a keeper league (Points Only 1G 1A)

Been offered Rick Nash (LW) for my Tyler Seguin (C/RW). Value is pretty fair but I think Seguin will have more keeper value. Thoughts?

In my view its trickier than at first thought. The short answer is yes, Seguin does have more keeper value. He hasn't reached his prime yet, and could be a 100+ player in the next few years. The thing thats bothering me as a Seguin owner is just how deep that Bruins team is. He's not getting as much ice time as he would if he were on a team with not as much forward depth. That being said, I have no worries that he will one day become a superstar and will earn more icetime.

Nash is playing on the top line with some top end talent. The Rangers have always had trouble scoring however, and even though their prone to bursts of goals, they play a defensive-style game that forces each player to play all 200 feet of ice.

It's close, but in my view because Seguin is younger and has more upside, I'd need more back than Nash.

Welcome to the boards! You are bang on with your assessment of Seguin. He does have higher keeper value and would be a lot harder to acquire if it was the other way around and you had Nash instead of Seguin. Keep Seguin in this format.

Thank you both 9601 and gainerama.

I was hesitant to let him go and your insight reconfirmed this. I also have RNH in this league so hopefully they both peak around the same time

I would trade my Nash for Sequin, however Nash is ready to explode. Nash has 7 points in 8 games just below a PPG but his shooting percentage is way below (5.7%) his career average (12.6%). If it was based on who I would want for the next two years and my team was close to winning I would want Nash, if its based on long term rebuild because as others pointed out Sequin wont realize his full potential until Boston loses some of its balance then Sequin.

Hi Canucks_fan18.

Thank you for your reply. I agree that Nash is better for this year and next if I was close to winning. Having said that, every team is close to winning it all this year due to the shortened season (only 20 point different from #1 to #10). At this time, it's hard to let go of Seguin for Nash when their production should be close this year (slight edge to Nash).

It's interesting that you brought up Nash's shooting percentage at 5.7%. Seguin is doing tremendously bad so far shooting at 3.7% (career average 10.3%). He is off to a slow start and I am patient to see how he does by the half way point in the season. The skill is there, he just has to start performing like he did during the lockout in the Swiss league (40 points in 29GP)

Hi puckinright_27,

Currently Year 2 in a 5-Year keeper league. I see Seguin's production increasing for the next 3 years. He posted 67 points last year (.827 PPG) for his second season which is impressive. If he performs around this rate - that's good. If he improves - all the better!

Cheers.

I'd rather have Nash for this year, but moving forward I would rather have Seguin. In a keeper I would hang onto Seguin, as Nash's upside over Seguin for this season, is not nearly enough to justify over Seguin's upside over Nash in the years that follow.

Hi Essej. Short, concise and perfect response. Thank you.
