Default Trading Vanek (REP)

Vanek is killing it right now! I would like to trade him now for a slow starting player that will help me down the road. Who should I target?
PLease rate these proposal:

1. Vanek for Iginla (gain on SOG which im really lacking, wash for most other categories I think)

2. Vanek for Getzlaf (Gain on PIM, Loss on SOG, loss on point production?)

3. Vanek+Read(or Giordano) for Evander+Clarkson (Peripherals play, Really need PIM and SOG).

4. Vanek for Lucic (Peripherals play).

Trades 3 and 4 seem reasonable but I really think you can do better. Vanek's value is through the roof right now, so you should at least be able to get a slow starting top 20 forward in return straight up.

Vanek won't maintain his ludicrous pace, but it certainly appears he's in for a career year. He will almost certainly help you more than these other options if you're looking to win. Now is the time to try to package him for an elite player...Giroux, Malkin, Crosby, Tavares, Ovechkin [if you think he can bounce back].

Of the trades you list I think Getzlaf is a long-term win for you. I'm not convinced you'll win the deal this season so your status as a contender matters some.

A couple of things here, this is our first year of a keeper, and we'll only keep three players, so targeting a player like Giroux or Malkin will probably be pointless, I doubt anyone will be willing to get trade away their first pick just yet. And since we only get to keep three players this year, this trade most likely wont have any impact on next season, unless I package him with Backstrom/Kopitar/Benn for a top 10 player like Perry or something.

I like Getzlaf as the best return, but I would hang onto Vanek for now, or if possible try and trade him for a greater return.

I guess then I simply don't understand the push to trade him...he's likely not a keeper for you or for most other rosters and he's lighting it up for you. If anything, a glance at your roster would indicate you could really use some help on D. If you can trade him for Byfuglien or if you don't mind gambling a bit an under-achieving D. Doughty then that would make more sense to me.

Is there someone in particular you recommend?
Some slow starters so far Kessel, H.Sedin, Seguin, Perry and Ovi. But Ovi and Perry went in first round, so doubt they will be up for sale just yet.

Well its mainly because I dont see him continuing this pace for very long, and I wont mind trading him now for a slow starter that will help me out in a couple of months during the playoffs. And you're right about my D, I completely neglected that position. How about Vanek for Chara or Letang straight up? or maybe something like Giordano+Vanek for Chara, or Letang?

Yes, these are the types of deals I think you should be looking to do that deal a hot player [from a position of roster strength] to address a weakness on your team. This way even if Vanek more or less continues his amazing run you've made your team stronger all round.

I don't like any of the trades you listed, I really think you can make a play for an elite player or a soon-to-be elite like Seguin, Eberle, or Tavares. If your team is primed to win this year (which is difficult to tell due to the shortened season) then just keep Vanek. I'd hold onto him right now, even though he is hot, he has made a great first impression and will have a high value all year, so you can trade him later for a good return once you know how the playoffs are going to pan out.
