Default Is Grabner for real (again)?

What are your thoughts on him? He disappointed a lot of owners last season. This year is looking good so far.

I am not a Grabner fan.
(I dislike him on a similar avenue that I despise Kovalchuk... but not that magnitude).

He has his moments... but he's a heads-down me-first shooter that doesn't have great all-around game. He releases fast on pucks, which can be good - some coaches feel it is defensively irresponsible to leave the zone too soon. For this reason, he can be all glam or in the doghouse quickly.

He has 4 goals (one empty-net)... and they are worth disecting by going to NHL.com and watching his goals:

4. Last night against PIT, jumped on a coughed up puck, breakaway goal. (not a reliable goal to count on)
3. Quick release on pass from Boyes. Pretty far shot on a bad goalie (TOR goalie - not a reliable goal to count on)
2. Empty-netter. C'mon.
1. Cherry-picking & Streit found him. Coaches hate guys that do this. HATE. Yes, it's a goal, but coaches don't like seeing players doing this stuff.

I believe when all is said and done the question is always "How many" Not "How Pretty"

The kid can put the puck in the net and if ur leauge counts SH then it's a bonus...

Well - I think the discussion is warranted.
Evaluating a player's overall hockey ability (incl. defensive-minded-ness) factors into the overall ice-time he receives.
Grabner is sometimes limited in his ice-time when he starts his cherry-picking shit.

Look at his game log from last year.
Just count the number of games where he was getting 16+ min/game.
Count them in each month.

Capuano has been the coach of the Isles for 3+ years.
He knows Grabner well.
If Grabner starts cherry-picking and it costs the Isles, he'll end up back in the doghouse.

The Isles won't be winning forever... and once Grabner starts costing them MINUSes, his ice-time will plummet.

That's my point.
The going is good now - but it's not sustainable... and the goals are a bit fortunate to this point, IMO.

I understand your perspective and agree with it full heartedly. But riding Hot streaks can win you a championship, get him while he's hot and flip him when u see the shift coming...
Thats all im saying...

I agree with this statement.

However, the question of the thread is "Is Grabner for real?".
I say no.

Yes - it's a hot streak.
Q: Is it sustainable?
A: No. (because Grabner isn't going to get 19min/game ice-time & 20% shooting all season.)

Grabner has looked great this season. He is going to be top 6 this year on the Island and I think he continues to score and will finish near the 30 goal pace he had 2 seasons ago... He doesn't need much to score and he had less ice time 2 seasons ago when he hit the 30 goal mark. He has one of the very elite defensive centers in the league on his line, so defence will not be his priority thanks to Nielsen.

Not mine. LOL
I called it!

Since this thread, in 7 games... he has just one point and is -9.
MINUS NINE.

Last night he was under 13min... in a SHOOTOUT game.
Grabner spent much of the night on line 3/4.
Looks like Josh Bailey has taken over his spot in the top 6.

Can you spell D-O-G-H-O-U-S-E?

(i am so smrt. s-m-r-t.)

Next to JT and Moulson the entire NYI roster lives in a dog house or at least they should. The majority of this roster screams inconsistency.
