Default Phil the Thrill Kessel. Wtf?

I haven't watched a single game of Toronto's this year, but only 3 assists and NO GOALS is a bit of a surprise. I see he is taking a tons of shots, so I'm hoping it's just a matter of time before he comes through big. I've had some interest in him but they've all been really low offers. Anyone that's watched him this year, is something up or is he just off to a slow start?

For full disclosure, I haven't watched him extensively either.

However, I think there's a bit of distortion in player production for guys that were not actively playing during the lockout. Once they get back up to speed, we should see them post 'normal' output. I would say hold onto him a little while longer unless you get a deal that you can't refuse.

I am a little concerned with guys like Conacher that have started really fast because they've been playing the last few months, but could fade when the vets get their groove back on.

I don't think anything is really...as you said he has a TON of shots already as usual. The thing is Kessel is VERY prone to these type of streaks mid season but because this one is to start the year everyone is losing their mind.

To finish off the year last year he had 1 in his last 8.

I would hold firm right now because there is no way you're going to get anywhere near what you paid for him/drafted him at.

Kessel is playing well, not great but well. He is, as mentioned, streaky by nature. However, I also think the loss of Lupul has hurt him (he struggled at the end of last season when Lupul went down injured) but it sounds like JVR is going to gt a shot on that line and he could fill Lupul's shoes nicely.

I was really looking to trade him or anything, I just wanted to hear some opinions seeing as I haven't watched him at all this year yet. As long as he's playing well, the pts will come.

I've seen every Leaf game thus far, Kessel is playing hard. He's putting up a ton of shots and is visibly frustrated at the end of a number of shifts. Hitting posts, shooting pucks on edge, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if he scored against Washington tomorrow.
