So I've seem to have brought the ire of a GM in my league on my asking price for Malkin. Personally I think my asking price is fairly reasonable; even leering on the low end value...but I digress.
- players under the age of 27; so no fossils. - 1 good player(75+ pt capable), a middle tier player(65+ pt capable), and top tier forward prospects. - should result in cap savings for me; not looking to take on a $6 million D contract to compensate the salaries. Solve my debate although I already know his answer won't change; nor will mine. 14 team league, salary cap of 90.2 which I'm perennially challenged to get under and I am under a few million this season. Categories are G A +/- PPP SHP PIM HITS SOG GWG. |

Why have a debate? You own Malkin. Name your price. Unless Crosby or Stamkos is included it should not even be a discussion IMO.

Malkin... even at $9m salary is a great player in cap leagues.
IMO, you build your team with half superstars... maybe $70m worth of salary. Then every year your other half of players... maybe $20m worth of salary. Don't get fooled by people telling you that Malkin isn't a great player because of his salary. This is because you can always find a player for $1m that can put up 40-50pts. $9m Malkin (90pts) + $1m JunkPlayer (~45pts) is still better than $6m Good forward (70pts) + $4m OK forward (60pts) And it's way easier to find that $1m player and replace him if he stinks. It's part of something I call a "High-Low" theory and I highly advise keeping superstars in salary pools, even at their high contracts. So getting back to your original trade concern. No - you aren't asking too much for Malkin. I agree with others, you could ask for more. The key is that the strategy is not about Malkin's Pts/$$$. It's about what you can attach to Malkin at a really good value. |

If he called you, then you can name whatever price you want. He has the option to walk away at anytime.

What is your reason for trading? I personally hate cap leagues, but if it is for cap reasons then trim it in other places. The only reason to trade a player like Malkin is if you have absolutely zero depth and need to bolster. My asking price for Crosby is 2-3 top forwards (In the mold of like Benn, Eriksson, Perry, Ryan, Neal, Nash, that sort of range), One mid to top D (Doughty, Pietrangelo, someone in that range just below Karlsson), and a decent starting goalie (Not like quick, but not shitty either). Most GMs in my league are willing to pay it too, just don't have all the assets necessary.

Shameless plug:
http://hockey.dobbersports.com/index...ard&Itemid=117 The stars are worth their money. The middle tier tends to be overpriced. Build your team with stars (Malkin is a great fit) and fill the rest with seasonal cap bargains. Swap out your bargains when their contracts are up and bring in a new cheap producer. Rinse and repeat.

I wouldnt listen to your other GM in your league. If probably a real big fan of Malkin and he just wants him on his team. If he doesnt like your asking price then its too bad for him. Pay up or back away.

Like eveyone else is saying, if you want Malkin you should be ready to pay up, even in a cap league.
