Keeper League Waiver Activity - what do you do with quality buried prospects?
As i scanned the waiver wire for a hot pickup today, i had a moment of clarity. I realized that everytime i need to drop a player for a pickup to help me in the short term, I have this urge to cut bait with players in "bad situations". Example - Tyler Johnson in TB, Ty Rattie in StL, any winger in Boston. The teams have so much young depth in front of these prospects at the same positions, that no matter how much i like their upside, i figure they wont get the opportunities needed to make it. I've cut bait with young players like that before - getting rid of good players before they make it to the NHL because i didnt like their chances of fighting through the established players ahead of them.
I'd like to know how you approach it when you need to drop a prospect. Do you take their situation into account? Or just assume that talent will always rise to the top and a talented player will be moved, or a team will find a way to fit them in?
