Default Obligatory 'How'd I Do?' Post. 1st year Keeper!

I had the 2nd pick. Swore #1 was taking Malkin. Was happily surprised when he took Stamkos. Yeah I'm not sure Malkin is that much better, but he's my man crush, so well yeah. Ha!

League details are in the sig. I went heavily off of Fantasy Hockey Geek's draft kit combined with Dobber Projections and a few gut calls here and there. Ended up with much weaker C's than I planned. Went for quantity over quality in goalies since their only 3 of 9 categories.

Only category I feel I'm weak in is FOW which I can make up for if needed. Guys like Stoll are still out there. So what's everyone think? Team is in the sig. Thanks! 24 Hours to HOCKEY!!

In a 10-team league, I'd say this is a 6th-8th team.

Your keeper group is poor too.
Malkin/Neal is a good start... but it drops off quickly after that.
Chara is a solid keeper, but he is on the older side.
Same with MSL.

Goalies are typically overvalued in 10-team leagues... they are always there in the draft late and should be taken accordingly (unless named Lundqvist).

To win these types of leagues you need to slot your centers that are wing-eligible into wings (not center).

So, you've got Ott/Elias/Malkin all in the wrong spot.
You need to have them as LW, LW, RW.

Also, in Blocked Shot leagues you need all of your defense to block shots and Enstrom & Fowler won't do that. They don't HIT much either. So you missed out on this one.

Your goalies are on the weaker side... I'm not fond of the defense for either ANA/MON/OTT and I think those teams will get killed in GAA & not win many games.

For now, I'd recommend the following:
1. Move Malkin to RW, move Elias to LW. Move Andy Mac to your bench, move Voracek to your bench (as he isn't currently top line in PHI).

2. Move Plekanec to C. Find another C that takes FOW & HITS. Martin Hanzal, for example, may be available.

Good luck

Ha, well i hope you're wrong! You make some valid points about moving the C's to their respective Wings. Will definitely do that. Thanks for the input.

Best available that score well in FOW & Hits are:

Stoll
Slater
Gaustad

Drop anyone for one of them you think?

Not great. Nope don't drop any of your players.

Unfortunately, that means your fellow leaguemates have the jump on you for strategy in this league. Hold what you have right now and just see how you do for a week or two.

Bummer. So what do you think, on paper, is my biggest weakness that I should look to improve if my team performs as you think? My league is usually very active with trades and whatnot.

Didn't I tell you in your original post that Stamkos should go #1 in that format?

Your team is not THAT bad. I think most of the guys above are looking at this from a points perspective, but this is one of those grittier leagues so guys like Chara, Ott, Landeskog, Fowler and Giordano are gold. You also have middle-of-the-pack firepower between Malkin, Neal and St Louis, although you can certainly improve in this area.

Your goalies would be the biggest concern for me.

Ha! You did nail that dead on the head. Kudos to you.

And I'm starting to feel that way too, that people are looking at it from a points perspective. I mean I know this isn't a blockbuster team, but in H2H with the depth of scoring categories I can see this team pulling out some wins.

Goalies are definitely weakest, but after all the big names went Price was the best available in the 4th and then I waited a while to grab the others. We get 12 starts per week max for goalies and I plan on maxing as best as I can to at least try to take down W's weekly. We shall see.

I take criticism well, but thanks for bringing some optimism into this thread!
