espn is also reporting it. It's a summation of deadspin report with commetns from Teo, Notre Dame and other sources. That certainly adds credibility because its espn (don't know anything about deadspin not saying its credible or not)

Anyways in the espn report Te'o issues a statement where he basically says he was the victim of a hoax and that other people convinced him this girl was real and she died of cancer. There's another statement "But a friend of Tuiasosopo told Deadspin he was quote "80 percent sure" that Te'o participated and did so with publicity in mind." Certainly a lot more to come out on this story.

The story is definitely true and has blown up in a pretty big way. It was on PTI yesterday and SportsCentre. I suspect it's gonna turn into a giant game of pass the blame. Te'o will maintain he was the victim of a sick joke and an innocent kid, Notre Dame will say they believed T'eo (why no one bothered to make sure this girl was actually dead is beyond me) and the "hoaxsters" if found will likely get some time in the spotlight, wouldn't be surprised to hear them say Te'o and Notre Dame were in on it to take some heat off of them and get some more interviews. It will be interesting to see if this effects Teo's draft rank, up until this point he was the next Tim Tebow, standup guy who did everything right, now he's got this bizarre situation following him around, if teams even think he was in on it they may want to pass on him (plus Alabama made him look pretty stupid in the BCS game.)

I'll say it's blown up big. The NFC and AFC Championship games are just 4 days away and this was the lead story on NFL AM on NFL Network this morning. They had ex-GM Charlie Casserly on there breaking down how this will affect his draft status.

If he was a willing participant in this it's going to be a red flag to teams as far as his judgement and character off the field go. It won't stop him from being drafted but he will likely slide down the board now, which will cost him big money on his ELC.
