Is it too much risk taking Sid at number 3 in a new keeper? Would you rather pick 6th and take a guy like Tavares, Ovi or Lindqvist? Same stats and format as league in sig.

I'm assuming Malkin and Stamkos go 1,2.
Yes. Sid seems healthy and ready to go. I would have no hesitations about taking him 1st overall if the option was there. The reward is usually worth the risk with Sid.

In a one year, things shift a little. With Ovy's less than stellar last season, he might fall slightly. Stamkos will jump up a bit.

In my draft last night, H2H multi cat league, it went:
1. Malkin 2. Stamkos 3. Quick 4. Crosby - my pick. It was an easy choice once he slipped to me at 4. I was more worried about who to take had one of the big 3 not been there for me at 4. Luckily it worked out and my pick was pretty easy to make.

i dont see stamkos as an irresponsible pick
2nd in total points for the last 3 seasons 16 points ahead of number 3 and 4 points behind number 1 1st in total goals for the last 3 seasons 36 goals ahead of number 2 1st in total powerplay goals for the last 3 seasons 11 ahead of number 2 4th in total shots for the last 3 season only 7 ahead of 5th but still not terrible and 10 behind 3rd 22 years old and one of the most consistent players over the last 3 seasons is hardly irresponsible imo Last edited by lucifer316; 01-16-2013 at 02:39 PM. |

I'm drafting 2nd overall, and Malkin has already been determined the 1st pick. IMO Stamkos is a solid #2 pick (goals are weighted a little more in my keeper mind you). There's really nothing wrong in picking him 2nd overall. He scores a ton, and his upside in around 100 pts. Ovie's been trending downwards in points (two seasons and mediocre playoffs), and he plays a little on the wreckless side. Sid's health is a concern going forward. Outside of Malkin, is there a more consistent scoring option out there? No disrespect to Giroux, the Sedins, etc.

With the third overall I would take whoever of Corsby, Malkin, and Stamkos is still available.
Ovechkin needs to prove he belongs in the same category as those three now after back to back down years. Pure goal scorers for the most part age poorly and Ovechkin is already past the age where you can expect peak goal outputs from him. If you could trade back to 6 pick up a significant asset and still get Lundqvist or Ovie that would be a consideration as well. |

That said, I would swing for the fences and take Sid over Stamkos every day.
I'd rather have 140pt potential than 100 pt potential.
