2012 draft class - picking 3rd and 12th, who to target?

Hey fellas,

This is for a pts only keeper league with 13 teams and 30 man rosters, with top 12 fwds 4 Dmen and 1 Goalie counting towards the team total.

We have a separate draft where only guys from the previous entry draft are allowed to be selected. I have the 3rd overall (could move up If I win the lottery) and the 12th overall. The first pick is easy but then who would you be targetting at 12th? I looking for forwards, dont need goalies or Dmen (in this league I already have OEL, B. Smith, Orlov, Larsson and Rundblad as young prospect Dman).

if you are so inclined rank your top 10 fwds from the draft? Or a couple of suggestions of guys that you think will still be available at 12? I dont expect Grigorenko to be available despite his draft position.

After taking one of those Russians with the 3rd overall pick, I would probably try to trade the 12th overall pick for a usable player or a more developed prospect. That would also be a good piece to use as a throw in if you want to do a multi-player deal and force the accept.

Outside of: Yakupov, Galchenyuk, Forsberg, Grigorenko, Faksa, and Teravainen, I would bite the bullet and go for Morgan Rielly dispite what you said.

for me at 3rd position it as to be Galchenyuk or Grigorenko or Yakupov, who ever is there

at 12th, maybe Tereveinen, Forsberg, Faksa, whoever is still there !

Vasilevski or Subban is not bad to have even if you dont G...

thanks buddy, unfortunately nobody wants my pick ..... Ive shopped in return for a middle-low waiver draft pick and even in conjunction with a player as well and no biting. I have a couple more days but I doubt I will be able to swing anything for it.

Ya Rielly isnt a bad idea but as I said I dont need the D, although I could maybe get lucky and have him fall and then deal him to a fellow leaf fan. Thanks

thanks for the input ... yep Ill take whichever of those 3 fall to me with my first pick and If I got Forsberg or Teravainen I would be thrilled .... im thinking Faksa is more likely .... We only count one goalie in this format and I have Fleury as my starter also there are guys like Brodeur, Hiller and Bakstrom available at the waiver draft each year as only 13 goalies can be kept so its not worth investing in prospect goalies.

Have you tried trading the pick for a pick NEXT year?

In one league I am in I traded 2012 1st and 2nd round picks for Ondrej Pavelec. I recently traded Pavelec + 2014 2nd round pick to a GM for 2013 1st and 2nd and a 2014 1st round pick. So, basically for 2 1st's.

I didn't like the forward depth of the 2012 draft compared to the 2013 draft.

I'm not sure if it is allowed in your league or if the guys would bite, but I'd say it's definitely worth a try.

thanks for the suugestion .... havent actually tried that, it is allowed but most guys dont think that far ahead top be honest.

You can't draft guys left over from previous drafts? Probably a lot of solid guys out there undrafted.

If not, I might try the next year option, or bundle it with a player to get an upgrade.

Do you have a given number of slots? In my league we have 6 but can hold guys for up to 5 years. The guy with the #2 pick had all 6 slots filled, so I traded him my #1 next year for his #1 (#2 overall). Got Seth Jones out of it, severly pissing off the guy at #4. Well worth it.

nope only players from this latest entry draft are available in this draft. Trading, I have tried and will continue to try but Im not hopeful as picks outside the top 5 dont really hold much value in this league. No limit on spots, you can stock a roster with prospects if you want.

Teravainen is definatly the guy I would be targeting with your pick. I would expect him to go around 10 so if you can find a way to move up I would. Outside of the big 3 forwards from the draft he is the only one that excites me.
