Default Roberto Luongo aint coming to Toronto

You heard here.
The more i listen to Dave Nonis and the new owneship the more i see a rebuild to make this team competitive for years. Nonis' track record certainly leans this way too.

Not saying this is a rip apart rebuild but certainly one that involves youth - adding to whats there

Which means No Roberto. Jonathan Bernier anyone?
Take your shots. Ill take it like a man if im wrong!

agreed

bobby lou does not want to play for a crap TO team anyways

makes ZERO sense for leafs to grab a 'tender with the calibre of Luongo at this point. for what?? so he can get 'shelled'

sorry leaf fans. leafs stink. nonis will not be the GM when leafs eventually win a cup. leafs are minimum 5-6 years away from being a contender and thats under the best of circumstances and keeping all their entry picks

i will not eat crow if luongo indeed comes as he will stink the joint out under the glare of the toronto spotlight

I despise the leafs...but I don't think they are as bad as you make them out to be. Firstly the Marlies are doing great. 2nd they have some decent propspects and young talent if they can get it going at the NHL level. No cup is near but if I'm a leaf fan I'm feeling quite a bit better that years past.

I agree that Toronto is a long shot and if Nonis truly wants to rebuild, then Luongo goes somewhere else.

But it wouldn't be the first time a goalie came to Toronto and turned into a hero.

Belfour and Joseph.

Some goalies play much better when they are on lower caliber teams and face a lot of shots. Remember Luongo in Florida when it was common for him to face 50 shots a night. I personally think that Luongo would flourish n Toronto, but its not a move that wins them a cup at this point. Its gets them in the playoffs and into some competitive series....but that's about it.

It was reported/rumored that the leafs said no to Bernier.

Nonis is just talking, it might take a few games to see where teams are at before they start getting serious. If the Canucks stumble bad out of the gate without Kesler the price for Lou could drop into Nonis's range.

I wouldn't rule out TO.

Yes Burke said No.
But Im assuming the asking price will be too high, especially since LA are not in a rush due to the compacted season & Lombardi said no one is ready in the farm to backup.

Talking backed up by the way Nonis does things.

it doesnt make sense you dont want to end up in that limbo where you just miss the playoffs every year and miss out on the elite talent in the draft

if nonis being there instead of burke doesnt change the way ufas feel about signing there they are going to have to bite the bullet and suck and i mean really suck

They don't have to do it that way. They can get out of the 9-11 positions by just making better personnel decisions all over the place. The top draft picks are one way to do it but not the only way.

9 times out of 10 those other ways take just as long and lead to boring ass hockey

Yep drafting properly is almost always the best way to go(when it comes to being a consistant winner; ie Detroit...In the beginning they sucked bad and were able to build from there. But it had to start there). The lower you finish the better. Ofcourse you have to have great talent evaluators too. Leafs for years have lacked that.

Id love to be an Oiler fan right now, drooling over all that great talent and watching it slowly develop.

Not to mention salary cap makes it much tougher to do it any other way.
