VW82 is an unknown quantity at this point
Dobber Sports Sophomore
Default Henrique, Scheifele, Strome

I am in a 10-team roto keeper league with offensive cats as follows: G, A, +/-, PIM, PP, GWG, SOG. I have three eligible rookies that I can keep, need to pick one:

Henrique
Scheifele
Strome

Henrique - likely to put up the best numbers offensively this year, but moved to 2nd line and gets next to no PIM's and low shots

Scheifele - good shot of making the team, but buried on the third line behind Little and Jokinen

Strome - for some reason, Dobber has him as a low likelihood of making the team; would he really need to do that much to unseed Frans Nielsen?

I'm leaning toward Scheifele because I have poor draft position this year and I think he's the best long range shot. But, Strome seems to be a more natural goal scorer and has less competition for the centre spot.

My keepers are: Giroux, Seguin, Zetterberg, Marleau, Pacioretty, Letang, Yandle, Rinne, Smith, and Varlamov.

Let me know your thoughts.

Seeing what Strome was able to do in the WJHC's and considering the desperation of the NYI to finally cash in on their savy drafting, I think Strome has a free way paved for him eventually lining up with Tavares before the end of the year. They've waited long enough.

Agree about Henrique...he'll take a step or two back before really seeing what his potential is (if he is infact relegated to the 2nd line and declining PPM).

Sheif...Can't really go wrong here either. Winnipeg will continue to ride the honeymoon phase of their beloved franchises return, and Scheif is the golden boy there...their first up and coming draft pick...guy to get excited about since their return. He to will be given every opportunity to succeed this year and Tavares/Kane aside...(Kane is no Tavares IMO but...) the rest of the surrounding talent is very similar. Will be interesting to see who excels the quickets with their respective squad's.

I agree with that. I also think that Strome has a clear path to make the Isles team and get meaningful minutes on the PP and on a scoring line. I think he's the best bet you can make right now.

Henrique will have a tougher year this time around but the main reason he's not attractive in your league is because of the PIM, Shots and +/-.

Scheifele will stay in Winnipeg in my opinion but I'm not so sure he'll be productive offensively, not this year. He may get 15-20 points in the shortened season but that's it.

It's just my opinion, but I believe that there's a better chance that Strome goes back to junior after training camp. The Isles have been burned already several times by rushing prospects into the NHL before being ready, hence hampering their development. Also, it's a really big jump to go straight from OHL to NHL and be able to handle the increased pace and physical play. I'm not sure that Strome is quite there yet.

Similar situatiion with Scheifele, although a lot will depend on what he shows at training camp.

That's why they sent him back last year when, in true Isles fashion, they would've kept him.

I think he has no more business in the OHL as he's completely burning the league. The Isles have a place for him in their lineup this year and I think he fits right in there.

That's certainly possible, but would he be eligible for the AHL? Not sure how the rules apply...

Henrique for me. He's going to be in the NHL for sure, he's much more proven than the other two players, Henrique is going to contribute to your team in a way I don't believe the other two are capable of; I'm pretty sure neither will see substantial time this season.

Once they lose rookie status, where do they fit on your team? Are they keepers? The answer is no, so I would go with the best possible option for the current season, and that's Henrique.

Actually, Strome is more of an uber-talented playmaker than he is a natural goal scorer. He will take the shot if it is there but the knock sometimes has been that he will wait a bit too long for things to develop before threading some beautiful passes. He needs to be able to play at a higher speed with his decisions against defensemen an entire level above what his is toying with right now in the OHL.

Dont get me wrong, I love the kid. I look forward to seeing the Stroman empire play second fiddle to JT with the Isles but there is always some risks. I would take Strome but I would probably recommend Sheifele to anyone that asks. Sheifele got a taste last year and he looked decent with his time in the Peg. He looked good with the top line in the World Juniors and I think he will make the team AND play. I would select Strome and not mind if I went down with that ship.

Strome is not eligible for the AHL until next season. So it's OHL or NHL for him.

I dont like Strome.

If you have to have a player thats going to contribute and play this year go with Henrique. He earned his stripes last year.

I also really like Scheifele but you've got to think he's at least year away in terms of solid fantasy production.

I can envision a scenario where Strome never makes it in the NHL, as lots of people have before, and watching him at the WJC didn't change my opinion.
