Like most leagues that are undrafted, we are scrambling to put a last minute draft together in my keeper league.
I am assuming Yakupov goes first and am in a complete rebuild. Rank the following for a roto-league (in sig). Not needing to compete this year, although short term upside is obviouslly a plus! Positions matter... Granlund Galchenyuk Baertschi Tarasenko Grigorenko Shultz Johansen Brunner (not really a prospect but....) Thanks - great to have something to post about again!!!!

Galchenyuk
Tarasenko Grigorenko Granlund Baertschi Shultz Johansen Brunner (not really a prospect but....) To me, this is about opportunity. Grigorenko is behind Ennis and Hodgson in Buffalo. He has IMO more upside than all of the players in this list. Tarasenko is uber-talented, but St-Louis seems to be the offense by committee type of team, which hurts him. He could easily see 3rd line minutes but with 1st PP time. As well as top6 minutes with 2nd PP. Granlund, IMO has the 2nd best opportunity in all of the player here except Gally. He has the lowest (even though it's a pretty good) upside of the 4, but his upside is also the one of a perennial all-star (just like Grigs,Gally&Tarasenko's though). He's also not the biggest body which could hurt him, which is why I have him slotted at 4. Galchenyuk, is #1 on that list. Great upside. Great opportunity (either has a center or a winger) with the Habs. Granlund will have a quicker fantasy impact(1-2 years), but in 3 season I can easily see Gally being the biggest fantasy asset out of these 4. It's a very tough list you have here, as you could flip a coin between all four.

In extended CATS Tarasenko, Granlund, Galchenyuk, Grigorenko and Schultz are clearly dependent upon their offensive based stats. Five future Lady Byng candidates? We're confident they can play, on one half of the ice. Domination in the faceoff circle, normally takes years.
Hot starts, being placed in the AHL or Junior, will see players values quickly rise/fall. Justin Schultz - (1990) move this kid up or down the list to suit yourself. His AHL performance... well, nothing else out there has compared to this achievement... Generally young D-men seem to have assorted ups and downs. Consider Phaneuf, Green, Myers, MDZ... Generally young D-men take some time to acclimate. Consider Carlson, B Smith. Something different seems to be going on here though. Still, he's scoring at a more considerable pace than he did in the NCAA... If this kid isn't top of the list on this day, NEVER will a D-man be on the top of the list. Opportunity abounds in Edmonton, for a PP QB. Tarasenko (1991) - Point-a-game in the KHL is nothing to sneeze at. Only Kovy had a better points-per-game average on his team. Probably a centre in the NHL. Extended CATS - dependent upon scoring CATS. I feel like he's closest to NHL ready and NHL impact. Kids like Galchenyuk & Grigorenko have more to prove in regard to being NHL ready. They might make the step instantaneously, or might not. Opportunity in St. Louis is good, but they don't have to rush the kid. They could use a go-to-piece. Granlund (1992) - I'm pretty sure he'll ultimately be a centre. After an elite season in the SEL, he's done well in the AHL (point-a-game). Size issue? I think he'll be in the NHL when the season opens. Will he be average for a few seasons, while developing strength and adjusting to the NHL? Sometimes fast crafty guys adapt quickly. Sometimes not so much. That he's ready now, will push his value up in the days and weeks to come. Rebounding from an injury. Minny has a spot for him in the top 6, and he could be shielded by bigger stars (not necessarily a bad thing). Galchenyuk (1993) - doing almost 2 points a game in Junior - sort of what you would hope for an Elite young prospect. Goal-a-game is nice. Few do this. Listed on hockeydb.com as a centre. His fantasy value, if he played wing in the NHL, would rise. Montreal would love to be able to give this kid the opportunity, as they're offence clearly doesn't have a centre piece. He was pretty risky to go 3rd overall. Two good NHL weeks and he could jump to the top of the list. Sent back to Junior, his value might fade a bit on this list. Grigorenko (1994) - similar to Galchenyuk (goal-a-game) Points pace is clearly under 2 points per game though. Dropped in draft, so I'll list him behind Galchenyuk. Mind you, he's listed as RW on hockeydb.com - winger status would propel him up the chart. Buffalo doesn't need to rush him, as they have ample top six players. However, they don't really have an offensive centre piece. That Grig was given some time to evolve, wouldn't surprise me. Rising/falling value, similar to Galchenyuk. Baertschi (1992) - very promising youngster. Probably a winger (good). Opportunity in Calgary is excellent. Some bigger stars there, which is probably good. Two points a game in Junior last year is excellent. Has done fine in the AHL. You have to like the kid. Clearly one of the top 20 prospects (top 10 prospects?) in Fantasy. Shows a bit of zip in the PM column. R Johansen (1992) - steady AHL performance. Decent rookie season. Centre. More than one "real deal" has followed up on a rookie season, like his, with a break through season. Opportunity in Nashville. Very good kid to have in your organization. Shows a better penchant for penalties, than most everyone else on the list. M Johansson (1990) - clearly a break through candidate. Opportunity abounds in Washington. (centre) Brunner (1986) - not a prospect. Too small vet, absolutely gave the performance of his life thus far this season. Spending time with fellow NHL 'prospect' Omark, and future teammate Zetterberg didn't hurt him any. Yes, one must wonder if the Wings will give him a chance with Zetts. However, the Wings don't normally rush things. The lineup also doesn't have holes. A few months ago, we were wondering AHL/4th line. Now we should wonder 4th line. Time to learn the Wings system. Maybe 12 minutes a night. His smallness is likely to inhibit his opportunity, and time spent on the ice defensively. Over the long haul, we're likely to hear about 'strength issues'. Is it a generation (20 years) since a Red Wing rookie was given "significiant opportunity"? His PM indicate he bites back when liberties are taken. That's not so bad for a smaller player. Still, he's a sleeper, like what's his name, the new centre in Calgary...
