Just read on The Hockey News that Redden's contract counts against the Ranger's cap.
No more burying players in the AHL if they make league minimum plus $375.000. So do they call him up now since he counts against their cap anyway.

The Rangers can afford it for now. They have about $10 million in cap space (not including Redden) and only have to resign Del Zotto. That all includes seven defence men already signed. So they afford to keep in the minors until the summer.

i thought they get two buyouts that doont count against the cap but count against the hrr.
not sure how much longer they have him signed for but i thought the 2 buyout thing was for the next 2 seasons. after that hed be neer or at the end of his contract.

Players cannot be bought out until after the conclusion of this season.
I doubt they play him just b/c he has a cap hit. He'll stay in the AHL. There is another chance that he gets traded to a team with plenty of cap space. Redden and a 1st for Rundblad
