12 team points only keeper league(keep 10).I'm finding myself having to protect 4 goalies, Rinne,Luongo,Dubnyk,Lindback.I obviously must trade one of them as we only dress 2 per week.my question is I can protect Evander kane instead of lindback but I'm thinking if Lindback has a descent start I might be able to get a better fwd than Kane in a trade. We have a few teams looking for help in nets as a motivator for me to keep 4G.I'm in win now mode with Crosby Datsuyk Neal Couture Nash Subban rounding out my roster!

You're really rolling the dice by protecting Lindback over Kane imo. Why hope to get what you already have? Kane's been trending upwards since his rookie season and I can't see him regressing as he is entering his magical 4th year and no one will take his ice time. Also, it's not like Tampa bolstered their defense, they got Matt Carle and Salo who are more offensive D so he may get shelled quite a bit.

Seems like too big of a risk unless you already have a deal in place to get a player better than Kane for Lindback. Kane could turn out to be a stud keeper for you that you regret dropping.
Keep Kane. |

Trade Rinne.
No... I'm not kidding. First of all... it's points-only. I'm assuming, for goalies, this means W=2, SO=3. How good do you really think Nashville is going to be? They had to throw their entire piggy back at Shea Weber which leaves nothing left for them. Rinne is a stellar goalie and SV% & GAA will continue to be great for him... but I have serious doubts about how well the Predators can do into the future. I mean... this team's 2nd best defensemen is... Hal Gill? Roman Josi? Kevin Klein? You have to remember that you are going to get the best return on your best player. If you have goalies with the following "perceived trade value": Rinne 9/10 Luongo 7.5/10 Dubnyk 6/10 Lindback 6/10 You are going to get a similar return back. Do you want a player that is a 9/10 or a 6/10? Personally, I'd consider trading Rinne for, say, Claude Giroux? John Tavares? Then you roll with the other 3 based on who has best schedule. People are always afraid to trade their strongest player at a position... but this is a time when you have the depth to consider it. But to answer the OP: I'd keep E.Kane over Lindback. Keep Dubnyk over Lindback. The Oilers could be very good & this could become Dubnyk's team. Last edited by Pengwin7; 01-04-2013 at 01:38 PM. |

Betting against Rinne and Trotz is ballsy and could pan out, but I couldn't stomach it. An intriguing option though!
I would personally get rid of Lindback, keep Dubnyk and Kane. |

Dubnyk is more proven than Lindback as a workhorse (which is a plus in points-only) so I think I would try to cash in on Lindback's potential.

Quote:
The Predators are not all that dissimilar from the Stanley Cup teams of the Red Wings, Penguins, Blackhawks. All of those teams had their young players (Datsyuk/Z, Crosby/Malkin/Letang, Toews/P.Kane/Toews) in the final years of their entry level or first contracts. Then the contracts expire and they have to pay those star players BIG dollars. When that happened, they all took a step back from their championship level. The Predators are sort of in the same position. They had Rinne, Weber, Suter all playing on affordable $3 or $4 or $5m salaries. Now they have to pay Rinne $7m annually and Weber $12 or $14m annually. This isn't a team that has a lot of money and some teams (Predators!) are going to get harder by the lockout then others (because there isn't a wait-list for Predators seats like there would be in hockey-craze cities). I know we've all seen the magic with Trotz, but when two of your players are eating up $21m in salary per year, the rest of the team around them is just simply not going to be as good. That's not even mentioning the disparity between player-salary itself which could (???) cause a rift in the lockerroom. Weber already indicated, by signing with the Flyers, that he was ready to leave. We haven't even seen this play out yet on the club. I think everything about the Nashville/Rinne/Weber situation is destined for a big fall. Rinne is a great sell-high right now in points-only leagues. (Not his fault, but the Preds are going to slide... write it in pen!) |

I actually really like the idea of trading Rinne here. I believe in your tandem of Luongo/Dubnyk and keeping Lindback as your third isn't a bad idea.
I think that your goaltending won't fare much worse with or without Rinne, but the potential boost to your skaters depending on who you grab could be much greater, giving you a net gain.

Ok so those who say he trades Rinne...what are you really expecting in return in a pts only league? Say it's someone like Parise, Backstrom (WSH), etc...doubtful but could happen. Would you rather have one of those F+Lindback or E. Kane+Rinne? Give me E. Kane+Rinne any day of the week (yes even in a pts only league).
I would suggest keeping E. Kane over Lindback and trying to move Lindback for a future draft in a keep 10 league. E. Kane is a good keeper in his own right and I think adding another pick is the best route for your team.
