that's a toughie
Hedman - looking better and better and his time in the KHL has done him well (18 assists in 21 games last I checked). Everyone knew it would take him some time and he looks like he is ready to take the next step. He can dominate in a way that few can. BUT, I am not sure if they plan on using him in an offensive role, when they have Carle and Barberio coming along. He also has been underwhelming in his NHL career, unlike Faulk. Too hard to tell if he will develop into an offensive stud, or better served in multi-cat leagues. Faulk - I owned him and read everything I could get my hands on to gague his value. Reports range from "the next great offensive defenseman in the NHL" with comparisons by his own GM to Housley and Orr to a solid two way guy, who will struggle for PP time with McBain and Murphy on board. Dobber mentioned in the guide that he is so effective that he may be given the tougher minutes, limiting his offensive upside (like Doughty in LA). Both are solid but I would roll with Faulk. He just seems like he is ready to take the next step at a much earlier age and has higher offensive upside. Staal-Staal-Semin-Skinner-Faulk could be incredible on the PP.

Dobber's guide has Hedman with a slight edge in both upside and "avg points over best three years". Both used in offensive and defensive roles, which may limit point totals for both. If I had a choice of drafting either today, I'd choose Faulk. Firm believer in the kid and think of the two, he's the first to explode offensively. I too think Heds will get there, but not as quickly. As mentioned above, CAR's pwr play should be deadly too. I think Faulk has less competition in McBain, Murphy, Corvo and Pit than Hedman w/Carle, Bergeron and Salo. So slight edge to Faulk here IMHO.

I'm more worried about Carle stealing Potential pp minutes from Hedman than Pitkanen or Mc Bain stealing pp time from Faulk.
Give me Faulk.

I'll take Hedman. I just think he is a better player and people are abandoning ship on him way too soon. Dude has insane potential.

In the short I think Faulk has the ability to put up more points than Hedman, but I don't think it's by enough of a margin to warrant taking him over Hedman, if you will be able to protect him long term, as the difference between the two won't be much.
Take Hedman very close as of right now, but has a very high potential. |

I would take Faulk in the short and long term. This guy is the real deal.

Exactly ^^. Coaches and GMs comparing him to HOF's and playing him 20+ min a game as a 19yr old. Hes the future number 1 on that team. Mcbain is not even in consideration. Pencil Faulk in foe 45pts+ every year for next 10..

As much as I agree with eric that people are writting Hedman off to early, I would still go with Faulk in a points only league.
