I rarely have a problem like this. I have express interest for Derek Roy to the Gm that own's him. He said he would consider moving him if the deal was a win win. I'm scratching my head trying to find a way to offer something that make sense but didn't succed so far.
That's why I need you help It could involve more than one player and any players from my team is available (if it improves my team). Pts/$$ is precious in this cap league(in sig)His team: Matt Moulson Milan Lucic David Desharnais Corey Perry Daniel Alfredsson Derek Roy Nicklas Backstrom Viktor Stalberg Michael Cammalleri Lauri Korpikoski Nick Johnson Simon Gagne Chris Kreider Damien Brunner Michael Del Zotto Alex Goligoski Cam Fowler Matt Niskanen Ryan Whitney Karl Alzner Simon Despres Nathan Beaulieu Jonas Hiller Tomas Vokoun Al Montoya Jacob Markstrom My team is in sig

Is your team in SIG?
1:1 trades are difficult... the only win-win is if you both strengthen different positions. A forward-for-forward usually doesn't make sense. His defense looks pretty good, top 3. You'd have to offer him Ekman-Larsson (too much) or Schultz (too much) to get Roy. Kaberle is too little. In goal, you have Vokoun (too little), Montoya (too little), Markstrom (too much). So, there's no good 1:1 trade, IMO. So you have to explore 2:2 trades. Most good 2:2 trades end up like this: Team A gets 1st & 4th best players in the deal. Team B gets 2nd & 3rd best players in the deal. Here, you could offer Getzlaf (1st best) and a scrub of your choice (4th best) for Moulson (2nd best) & Derek Roy (3rd best). This allows you to pair Moulson with Okposo, which might be fun. He'd get Getzlaf and you'd get two solid forwards. It's also sexy because pairing Getzlaf & Perry, to him, will seem enticing. By name recognition, Getzlaf is the big draw. Getzlaf also is on the final year of good-looking $5.6m contract. However, you can just about bank on the fact that Getzlaf will get $7m or $8m per year on his next contract... this coming summer. |

In the cap league in my sig I traded Iginla and McCormick for Cole and Roy last year. According to fantasyhockeygeek Cole out-performed Iggy in this format so I won the trade IMO. Just putting this out there because I believe there is room for this kind of a deal in a cap league. Context is everything and only the OP can answer that question since he is there in the trenches every day. I just wonder if it might be best to walk away instead of trying to force the square peg into the round hole.

Just looking at your guys roster I was thinking a # for 3, that will involve more risk for you
I was thinking try like Roy Fowler Hiller for Whitney Enstrom Kipper Reasoning in mind mind, is Hiller and Fowler should be available after really down years. Thats where your risk would be, I think Hiller can match Kipper (for less money) and Fowler will rebound and be just an absolute stud (especially with Vishnovsky gone). Whitney is kind've a sell high after posting a great year last year, I just don't see him keeping that up much longer, and personally I hate having retiring players on my keeper roster. So he gets the players with (perceived) more production, and you get the cap savings, get younger, and get the guy you want.

Gosh... I don't see why you disagreed. 1. It is a cap league. OP mentions that "Pts/$$ is precious in this cap league(in sig)". 2. You listed a trade that is pretty much identical to what I suggested. Iginla = Getzlaf. Cole = Moulson (Cole outperformed Iggy in multi-cat last year... Moulson outperformed Getzlaf in points-only last year) Roy = Roy. scrub = scrub. ??????? C'mon!!! Last edited by Pengwin7; 12-21-2012 at 01:21 PM. |

If you really want Roy, you would probably need to approach a trade as suggest by Pengwin. I don't like giving up the best player in the deal, so I probably wouldn't do it, but that is the avenue it appears you would need to take.

Quick update, after a lot of back and forth discussion, my latest counter proposal was:
Either: My Kipper/Getzlaf/Kaberle/Prospal or MacArthur his Hiller/Roy/Goligoski or My Getzlaf/Kaberle/Prospal or MacArthur his Roy/Goligoski I would have to give up MacArthur and Prospal anyway because I can't afford them. Any Thoughts or ideas/comments?

Well if I had to choose one of those it would be the first one, hiller isn't much of a downgrade over kipper and he is almost 10 years younger, and in a 20 team league I wouldn't want to hang my hat on a 35+ year old goalie.
I for one do think Getz is going to bounce back in a big way, for what it's worth.
