Default Did I get better... or worse?

All right, simple question: did my team got better with my draft or did it get worse? (otherwise known as the "How did I do" question)

I did not draft any goalies as we need 4 starts a week and I'm waiting on the Vancouver situation to clear up before choosing between Lack et Biron as backup.

Side question: who would you drop to get a goalie?

League in sig.

Kept:
C: Kesler. Sharp. Backstrom. Carter.
W: Benn. Eriksson. Lucic. Purcell.
G: Lundqvist. Schneider.

Dropped:
C: Henrique. Stepan.
W: Vrbata. Whitney. Milan Michalek. Booth.
D: Zidlicky. J Johnson. Ekman-Larsson.
G: Biron

Drafted:
C: Desharnais. Grigorenko. Brassard.
W: Fleischmann. Stafford. Hornqvist.
D: Suter. Carlson. Carle. Kronwall.
G: None

I am not a big fan, but you more or less held steady
C- grigs could turn into a keeper, otherwise unless you play more than 4 at any given time, none of these are going to do much
W- FLieshmann and michalek are fairly similar to me, i am not conviced either can repeat last year, but if i were ranking W, they would be within of a few of each other. The rest are 50 point guys on good days. I like horquist to at least be a decent option this year, and stafford could take a step, but i think overall you had a slight downgrade on the wing
D- you lost a lot of upside. OEL could be a beast this year. Carlson and Jackson offer similar upside. Suter and Kronwall are both great options, and i would be happy starting suter in almost any format.
G- unless you really need a goalie, Biron should be on most FA lists.

Overall, i see a big upgrade at D (at least for this year) and a slight downgrade at W. OVerall it is a win, but not by much if anything. I guess part of my issue is that i would have kept OEL over CArter.

Jim hit a lot of the points that I was going to raise...

I think in a 4 start week, and with a compressed schedule, you'll have to grab a backup to ensure that you get the starts. If Luongo stays it could be tough to get a lot of starts from Schneider... So I would definitely consider grabbing Biron back.

As for the rest of your team.

C- I think you essentially came out even, Grigs could be a keeper down the track especially if Carter continues to not produce big numbers in LA.

W- Same thing as well, Michalek was hot last year, same with Whitney and Vrbata... Stafford, Flash and Hornqvist are essentially the same.

D- You got a bit more depth there now... All your D are essentially #1 or #2, so you are alright there. I still think JJ and OEL could be in for bigger years, but what you replaced them with isn't too much of a dropoff.

I'd monitor Carter, but I think outta your team you'd have to sacrifice Hornqvist for Biron to ensure you get the starts needed...

Yahoo! H2H - 12 teams - 10 keepers
G / A / PPA / PPG / +- / GWG / SH / SOG
W / SV% / GAA / SO

C: Kesler. Sharp. Backstrom. Carter. Desharnais. Grigorenko. Brassard.
W: Benn. Eriksson. Lucic. Purcell. Fleischmann. Stafford. Hornqvist.
D: Suter. Carlson. Carle. Kronwall
G: Lundqvist. Schneider.

First question - how many do you start per position? You should add this to your signature as it's a crucial piece of information.

What is SH? Is that shooting percentage?

Since you have GWG/SOG, there seems to be an emphasis on goal scorers. And with PPG in a H2H league, this would have a greater impact on your matchups as they tend occur less than PPA, so even more focus on goal scorers.

Decent D but Suter and Carle are slightly overrated in this format due to being low goal scorers and low shot takers. Not sure if Kronwall will shoot more now that he's more of the go-to guy in Detroit.

I actually don't mind your wing pickups as guys like Lucic and Eriksson aren't big shot takers either so it gives you a bit more balance there. Purcell is interesting as he shot a lot less last season than the one before (152 in 11/12 vs 196 in 10/11), which gave him a relatively high 15.8% shooting percentage. For me, he's a bit of an unknown going forward in that sense but if he gets good ice time/linemates again than he could have another decent season.

Depending on how many you start I'd be tempted to drop Brassard for a backup goalie, as I'm using the logic that you might start more wingers than centres? Biron is a decent option as he gave Lundqvist quite a few quality starts so I can see them doing the same again. Of course depends on if/when we have a season, but several B2Bs could mean a good amount of Biron starts. The Luongo situation is risky and not sure Lack is guaranteed to get in there.

I'd peg this team for 4th-6th in a 10-team league.
Like your keepers, think your redraft was a bit weak.
Forwards in general are pretty weak for a 10-team league.

If this is a "daily-start" league, you should definitely get a back-up goalie and you should definitely have a +1 player at each position.

I'd guess it is a 3C/6W/4D/2G set-up.
I'd cut Grigorenko and Hornqvist (and maybe Brassard) and go out and grab 2 (or 3) back-up goalies.

Sorry for the late reply, was out of the country for the past 2 days.

" First question - how many do you start per position? You should add this to your signature as it's a crucial piece of information."
It's a daily H2H starting 3C - 4W - 4D - 1Util - 2G (will add it, thanks)
And it's a 12 teams league. 10 keepers per team.

"What is SH? Is that shooting percentage?"
Short handed

"I'd cut Grigorenko and Hornqvist (and maybe Brassard) and go out and grab 2 (or 3) back-up goalies."

Why that many? My goalie situation isn't bothering me much. I have two great goalies and I'm waiting to see if Luongo gets traded. Either way, I'm not pegging Schneider on being a workhorse yet... should he ever be one. So I'm thinking on grabbing Lack if Luongo finds a new home because he will get more starts than Biron and he will complete my schedule well. Biron is a great backup and he served me but he doesn't get that many starts. Both are still available and won't get picked up... at least not while Luongo is still in VC. Still, why would you get that many backups?

Defense.. As horrofan noticed, this league puts a lot of pressure on finding goal scorers. We are entering on our second year (which is also my first league as a manager) and my thinking as of now as been that defense is not that important in that format. Last year I only kept 3 D on my roster and had an extra forward to get a couple of extra starts. Since there as so many 50points defensemen out there, I thought this could be a good strategy. What do you think?

Carter vs OEL
I had a tough time not keeping OEL... but it really came down to how unpredictable are defensemen. Carter has a lot of upside and he was unsellable last year. I wanted to keep him and try to sell him if he gets a hot start. The decision really came down between him and Stepan though...

"I'd peg this team for 4th-6th in a 10-team league."
It's actually a 12 team league. But I have to admit that my draft wasn't the best... did it in Moscow between 3AM and 5AM... wasn't the best timing
