Both will get legitimate chances at a top 6 roll. I think Palmieri has the better upside, but McGinn has shown the ability to put up NHL points already. So, who to go with?

It really depends on the league setup. McGinn is OK but I don't think he will ever produce great numbers. Meanwhile Palmieri has a chance to achieve greater heights some day. In a very deep league McGinn's 20 goals and 40-45 points are valuable but in a format where he is a marginal player, go with Palmieri if you can stash him away while he develops.

there is definately no room in my minors. we only have 3 spots. I'll probably be bringing Smith and Faulk up, but I have Barberio,Despris, Brunner who are minor eligable, so I'll probably bury 2 of those there

Quote:
With McGinn, he's stuck behind Stastny, Landeskog, Duchene, O'Reilly, Hejduk, Downie, Parenteau and Jones so I mean that's 8 guys there, so I don't know if he'll get a "legitimate chance at a top-6 role" for awhile... With that said he doesn't have a lot of young up and coming competition as the Avs prospect cupboards are pretty bare at the moment. Same could be said for Palmieri with Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Selanne, Koivu, Cogliano in the top 6 this season, but he also faces a lot of young competition in Etem, DSP, Holland, Friberg, Karlsson and Rakell. But with Getz and Perry on the final years of their contracts, and Selanne/Koivu getting up there in age, the Ducks could go into rebuild mode as soon as next season which will open up a lot of top-six ice-time for the youngsters like Etem, DSP and Palmieri as soon as next season. I'd slightly lean towards Palmieri only because there is uncertainty with the Ducks in the future, but if they re-sign Getz and Perry things could change very quickly...

I don't think I'd keep either over them over your current prospects...

Short term I like McGinn. Long term I like Palmeiri.
McGinn has already shown some chemistry with Stastny and Jones last year on the 2nd line (scoring 13 pts in 17 games with the Avs). If he can stick on the wing on that line, he has the chance to put up some decent numbers. Palmeiri is waiting for his chance. I think he will easily make the top 6 in Anaheim but not until Selanne retires.

other safer options are
Hudler Bourque Glencross Raymond D'Agostini Jones Booth Wolski Grabner Leino Kennedy (Pits) Pouliot and Paajarvi who is really just a more estblised prospect And I'm not even sure how much beter any of these guys will be than McGinn or Palmieri this year.

Wolski might be a good choice.
Caps have Ovechin, Backstrom, Laich then Johansson, Riberio and Wolski, then Perreault, Ward and Brouwer then 4th line of Chimera, Crabb and Beagle... Brouwer might take Wolski's spot in the top six, but Wolski should at least still see some 2nd unit PP time, maybe even top unit time with Ovechkin and Backstrom... Grabner could be a good choice as well. He garnered 15:32 and 0:47 on the PP, and he plays a very similar style of play as Parenteau. Parenteau averaged 18:39 and 2:56, so there's a bit of quality ice-time that he leaves behind. Grabner could be the replacement for Parenteau. Worst case scenario is that he gets 2nd unit duties anyway. Those would be my top 2 choices...
