Team/league in sig. Went into draft with 2nd overall from a pretty bad team I inherited last year. Was able to add Green, Carlson, and Kovalchuk through trades during last season. I figured (as did others) that my team was fine from a defense/goaltending standpoint, so I decided that I need to improve my offense...here are the results by round...
1st rd...Blake Wheeler...Yakupov went 1st, Wheeler was the next best option, I also think he's pretty sweet 2nd...Travis Zajac...ranked pretty low from last years injury 3rd...Brian Elliott...best goalie available, possibly trade bait 4th...JVR...fingers crossed 5th...no pick 6th...Kyle Okposo...NYI fan, figure he'll be next best Isle after JT & Moulson 6th...Andy McDonald...Soft spot for this guy + strong team - injuries = ? 7th...Ryan Malone...meeeehhhh not bad for a late pick I suppose 8th...Mikael Granlund...a little something for the cupboard 8th...Matt Niskanen...Someone has to play with Letang no? 9th...Jared Spurgeon...Someone has to play with Suter no? 10th...no pick 11th...Rich Peverly...I find it odd he's available this late... 12th...Jordan Leopold (later dropped for Roman Josi...much better) 13th...Troy Brouwer...fingers crossed Obviously, without knowing the league/draft it's hard to say how I really did but how's my team looking after the draft?

Like you said, without knowing the rest of your league, it's hard to tell how competitive your team is.
From a brief glance, you've built a team from the back end out, with Miller and Price with a third of Elliott you should be fine between the pipes. With that said, goalies are only 33% of your stats, so there's still a bit of work to do. Your core of Staal, Kovalchuk and Perry is good, but I dunno if its going to be much better than any of the rest of the teams out there. Then you have a few unknowns like Stepan, Max Pac and Eberle... So those guys can go either way as well... D is a bit of a gamble as well, Fowler, Carlson, Enstrom and Green all kinda have baggage and aren't the safest of choices, but they all have upside. With your draft choices, nothing you can really question, Wheeler, Zajac, Okposo, Malone, Peverly, Josi, Niskanen, Spurgeon and Brouwer are all decent picks... I really liked JVR, Okposo, Andy Mc and Granlund picks. Overall I don't hate your team, but I don't love it either, so in my opinion, it's pretty run of the mill, middle of the pack team. But realistically speaking in H2H leagues, all you really need to do is win the crucial last week and you don't need the best team in the world in order to do that. Good luck!

Looks like you did fine in the re-draft...JVR could be a 4th round steal. How the hell did Granlund last until the 95th pick?

I couldn't agree more, especially with the "run of the mill, middle of the pack team" comment. This is the problem with inheriting a team, the previous manager usually sucked and that's why the team is available. That being said, only a couple of the managers in this league are really up on prospects and that showed with Yakupov going first, then Justin Schultz in the fourth round, Sven Baertschi & Dougie Hamilton in the fifth round, A.Galy in the sixth, then Granlund in the 8th...who I would say might easily be the most low key of the prospects picked. Either way, I know I have a ways to go, especially if I want to put my stamp on this team. I also realize I have a lot of "upside" on my team but I figured I'll need to take some risks and have a couple guys step up (Stepan, Fowler, & Green...I'm looking at you...) to have any success this year.
