Default Am I Nuts For Turning This Down?

Got offered a trade today:

His: Giroux, j.staal, skinner, ward, second rounder
for
My Crosby, granlund and a 10th

I'd have to drop 2 players as well.

An I crazy to decline?

In a 16 team league I'd have clicked the accept button right away. In a 10 team league I'd take quality over quantity. No, I don't think you are crazy to decline at all.

Depends...

- Do you want a great chance to win it all next year or do you prefer a good chance at winning year after year?
- - - Making the trade will give extra talent and drop your weakest links for the upcoming season, but after the year things might not be worth it. I wouldn't keep more than 2 goalies and Ward v Howard is almost a break-even situation. I've never been impressed w JStaal in points only leagues, but Skinner is an interesting choice (especially w aging guys like Zetterburg, Hossa, Elias on your team). So the long-long-term outlook of the deal is Giroux + Skinner for Crosby + Granlund. Would you make that deal? If you think Crosby can stay healthy... I wouldn't.

- Is your league head-to-head (weekly matchup) or roto (whoever has best total stats at end of season wins it all)?
- - - IMO, in H2H leagues I think I wouldn't make the deal, but I'd seriously think about it if its Roto. Crosby's injury history could screw you in roto leagues (where the yearly total number of goals & assists matter more than weekly matchup). Crosby's points-per-game will likely be better than Giroux, but that doesn't matter if he only plays 40 or 50 games and Giroux contributes for all 82 (ignoring the stupid lockout-lost games!). If its a H2H league, Crosby would be (for the most part) more useful any given week than Giroux, so I'd be less worried if Crosby sits out a few games if I still think he'll be contributing for my team during the fantasy playoffs.

It's total points all year. But only my top 12 skaters, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

I'd be dropping anisimov and either Elliot or baertschi/tanguay

Nope. You'd be dropping more than two -- with a limited keeper, you'd be dropping others after the season.

Quality wins in limited keeper. Crosby is the best.

I prefer the Crosby side.

NO player will benefit from this lockout more than Crosby.
More non-contact time is great for him. I actually really, really need to make a point to TRY to acquire him in my leagues.

In a limited keeper where you keep X players, your goal is to acquire the X best players in the league. Crosby is going to be among those X players, and if you trade him now you will never get him back.

Guess I'm in the minority here as is usually the case when it comes to the Golden Boy, but I'd take that and run.

I'd probably take Giroux over Crosby straight up... throw in Ward, Skinner AND Staal? Not even close for me.
