Default Wireless Providers/Plans

Any Canadians here have some recommendations on Wireless providers/plans?

Currently on a brutal plan with Rogers but switching right away...

Wind mobile has a sick $40 for unlimited talk text and data deal but doesn't work with iPhone 5... but considering how good the deal is, I'm almost considering getting a Galaxy SIII.

Basically looking for 1+ GB data, unlimited text/picture messaging, a few minutes, and some form of my10-type thing.

Basically Rogers, Virgin, Bell, Telus, etc. all have a plan very similiar to this for $65 a month but if anyone knows of any plans that would meet the above criteria for under $60 hook me up! Or if not, let me know if you have good/bad experience with any of the above providers.

Thanks!

I think a lot of it depends on where you are located and where you will be using the phone the most. Certain areas are stronger (urban) then others (rural) for the provider. Cell coverage is based on the amount of towers in certain areas. Also, keep in mind that depending on where you are, not everyone has their own cell towers. Companies will share towers. For example, I am in Nova Scotia and out here, Telus and Bell share their towers. Therefore, where ever Bell is strong, Telus will be as well.

I would go check out the various providers in your area and see what their plans look like and ask about coverage and towers.

I know for me in NS, Rogers is crap because they basically stacked all their towers in Metro Halifax area and the rural areas werent as big of a concern for them so its hit and miss as far as cell coverage goes. If you do any travelling in the Maritimes, their service isnt as strong as Bell's. I used to be with Bell but I find their customer service was about as bad as Air Canada's. Just nasty. I have been with Telus now for a few years and really have nothing bad to say about them what so ever.

I am on Rogers as well and here is what I recently did. Now my plan was coming to the end of the three year term so that might change things for you....

But I basically just kept calling back every couple of days and told them that my plan was almost up and that I had a work phone and I was contemplating either getting a SIII galaxy or cancelling with Rogers and just using my work phone. I didn't even have to say anything else and each time they would offer me something less. Then I would take the call ticket number and call back in a few days. Rinse and repeat.

Now because my plan was up I was due for an upgrade the Samsung of $169.99 had a $50 rebate on it...but I was also able to get that price down to $70!!!! So another $50 off the phone. My plan is also much cheaper.

That may seem like a scam by me but I actually do have a work phone and was considering this. They rip us all of either way so I say give it a shot.

I don't feel bad ripping off phone companies after all of the hassles they've put me through over the years.

If you call them and tell them that you've been extremely unhappy with their service, they'll do anything they can to keep you. That's what I did when my 3-year plan was up and I got a pretty good new contract.

Just not a fan of Wind and their dead zones personally. The whole point of a phone is that so you can call/text people from wherever you are.

I'm on Rogers now, and while their coverage is decent, their new LTE network is crap compared to Bell, Telus, Virgin (owned by Bell), etc.

I'm sure it will get better in time, but I'd prefer to transfer unless Rogers offers me a sick deal.

Fun fact... Rogers has a dead zone in the middle of my parents' living room. If I sit in the middle of their couch, I get no signal. If I sit on the end of the couch closest to the window, I get 2 bars. It even fits the scientific model because I can re-create it anytime I want.

I don't know how Rogers is for service, but I have not been impressed. That and them harrassing me to buy new plans.

They all certainly do rip us off. 2 years ago (I think) they all increased the costs of their plans saying their own operating costs went up. Then when their quarterly reports came out they all had recorded record profits. Bunch of BS. My plan should still be $18 like it was 5 years ago. $55 a month for cheap plan a deal? Hells no. Smoke and mirrors. Wizard of Oz.

I tried going to howardforms.com and it's not a site?

Also, don't you have to be a customer to get retention?
