Just what my sqaud needed. Who the hell needs an appendix anyways? Take it out while we're young already.

Yeah most likely, especially since they have a good idea that he will be out long enough.

just fyi...my wife is a doctor so I always hit her up for advice on this kind of thing...a normal appendectomy while a simple procedure can knock you out for 2-4 weeks simply because it can leave your spleen in a vulnerable position so any big hit could really mess you up. An 'emergency' appendectomy can be worse if the appendix has actually ruptured prior to surgery so just be aware that depending on how it played out he might be out longer.

I had no idea, I always thought it was sorta like having your tonsils out but nope

MaxPac is a wuss... I missed 1 week of school when I had my appendix out. There's no way the NHL is more demanding than grade 5.

haha, did they let you have full contact though? That was exactly my perspective too, but apparently its one of those things its best to be cautious with for athletes especially

    Pacioretty (appendicectomy) out 3-4 weeks
Max Pacioretty had an emergency appendicectomy on Saturday night and will be sidelined for three-to-four weeks. Tough break for the Canadiens' promising forward whose flu-like symptoms caused him to miss Saturday's practice. The 24-year-old already had four assists on the season after breaking out for 65 points last season. Pacioretty should return toward the end of February.

I think the appendix (lower right) is actually on the opposite side of the spleen (upper left) so I doubt it's related to the spleen.

You basically need the sutures in the appendix to heal, so it doesn't spill out intestinal contents in your stomach and you die from sepsis.
Can be laparoscopic (likely) or open procedure - lap is faster because smaller incisions.

sorry, I was unclear...no not related physically yes, but if it was ruptured (the appendix) it can cause all kinds of issues, apparently in particular with your spleen (which is not good for an athlete)
