    Default Ranks for upcoming draft

    Hello fellow dobberites,

I've got a draft coming up this week, and am looking for some help ranking some prospects.

I currently have pick #5, 15 and 16 in the first two rounds.

In our pool, young and cheap dmen and dmen prospects tend to be the most coveted players, due to our 1.5 pts per dman point and we use the cap hit.

I've got a list of ~30 available players, and would love some help putting them in some sort of of a Top 20. Thanks in advance.

Also, if i'm missing anyone from the 2012 draft that should be included, please feel free to add them.

    Default Results of Draft

So i had actually messed up and had the #6, 16 and 17th over all picks.

I was shocked to have Grigorenko fall to #6, so i had to make a decision between Grigs and Bjugstad, and ended up taking Grigs. I tried to trade up in the 2nd round, but the guy i was trying to trade with wanted Bjugstad.

The draft ended up being a bit of a crap shoot, some guys were prepared, some weren't, others had needs they wanted to fill that i didn't account for. I think i reached for Hertl and Lindholm, but i do think they have enough upside and opportunity to justify the picks.

    My picks:

    6. Grigorenko
    16. Forsberg
    17. Teravainen
    21. Hertl
    29. Lindholm
    36. Conacher
    45. Stone
    46. Vatanen
    47. Nelson
    50. Donovan
    56. Brodin
    60. Shore
    66. Palmieri
    86. Pirri
    96. Faksa

Great job, you did well getting Grigs at 6, Forsberg at 16 and Teravainen at 17. Could you let us know what number the other picks were? Looks like a real solid draft for you.

Thanks Vandalay, i've gone back and updated my picks with their numbers.

The draft this year was done with two expansion teams (league is now at 10 teams, finally), a number of teams looking to fill roster spots and was planned with one weeks notice (just incase the unthinkable happens, and the NHL and PA sign a CBA during the holidays, we wanted to make sure we could get a draft done, which during the holiday week would have been impossible).

my plan going in, as most of my roster is mostly full, was to try and get a blue-chip prospect or two, and then a mix of high-ceiling new prospects (forsberg, teravainen and hertl) and some AHL experienced and cheap prospects that might contribute right away (Conacher, Palmieri and Donovan). The rest were good cap hits/value with opportunities to make their NHL teams with a good camp.

the reason Grigs fell to 6th was because Cam Ward and Ryan Murray were picked in the top 5, both of those i didn't see coming, and as such had to make a decision between grigs and bjugstad at #6.

    60. Shore - solid if Drew, if Nick, ok
    66. Palmieri - if this is Kyle this is your steal of the draft
    86. Pirri - very underrated, I like him
    96. Faksa - absolute steal, surprised he made it out of the top 30

    Thanks for the feedback.

It is Drew Shore and Kyle Palmieri.

with the Faksa pick, i was picking between him, Jarnkrok, Jurco, Krug and Andy-Marchessault.

Krug and Andy-Marchessault would have been huge risk, maybe mediocre return.

And Jarnkrok and Jurco have great potential, and will be developed the right way by Detroit, but they may not make the NHL for 3-5 years with the talent that is ahead of them.

Faksa could play with Dallas right away, and with Roy being an UFA next year, Faksa could be playing Top 6 minutes in his 2nd year.

The only downside to the draft is that i'll have to drop half of my picks to get my AHL roster to 12, once the season starts.
